Actually some oldies and classic rock stations in Boston area have been known to play it on occasion. Many stores should have the Complete Greatest Hits album (I have it) and it's on there.I think when the song came out I thought the incident had taken place many years ago but it was only a year or so before? The part about "the legend lives on" refers to the lake and not the boat's sinking...

I can understand that. The Edmund Fitzgerald was not the first victim of the lake and definately not the last.
