More than a new stadium, the 49ers are in need of a new owner.
Actually, I'm just hoping that John lets his son take over in time. The kid is bright, enthusiastic and wants to win. I've talked to him and think he'd be a lot better "football" owner (as opposed to a business owner) than his dad.
As for the 'niners bailing on the 'stick - I couldn't be happier. I've had season seats for a while now and the current site sucks almost as much as the stadium.
Bailing on the leftist SF is also a good thing. The less revenue they have the better.
This is a good thing, I think, and if the 49ers keep improving (however slowly) they may host and win a superbowl in their own stadium by 2012! :)

There are these good reasons why the 49ers will probably get a stadium (likely privately financed) in Santa Clara:
1) There is plentiful space for the stadium AND parking lots at the Santa Clara location.
2) The stadium will have a Santa Clara VTA light rail station right next to it, which means it's easily reachable from almost anybody with acces to Santa Clara County's light rail system. It should be noted the light rail line from the stadium site goes directly west into Mountain View, where you can connect with Caltrain commuter rail up to San Francisco.

It would be nice if they could build out a BART extension to the new stadium. I'm headed to the Black Hole in Oakland this Sunday (to root for Denver) and having a BART stop at that stadium makes it so easy coming from Pleasant Hill.

As for the 'niners bailing on the 'stick - I couldn't be happier. Amen. I once attended a game there dressed in a down coat. It wasn't a Niners game, it was a Giants game, and it was on the 5th of July.
