Sheriff's deputies are searching for the man who killed a deputy, his canine partner and shot another deputy following a traffic stop.
Deputy Matthew Williams and his canine partner Dioji were killed. Williams has been with the department for 12 years.
Deputy Doug Speirs was hit in the leg and is expected to be fine. He has been released from the hospital.
It all started just after noon, when a deputy stopped the suspect for speeding. The suspect, described as a dark-skinned man with dreadlocks, then reportedly gave the deputy a fake identification.
He then asked if he was going to be arrested. The deputy said he didn't know. That's when they say the suspect fled into the woods. When deputies pursued, shots were fired.
Kathleen High School was on lockdown earlier Thursday. However, that lockdown has been lifted and students are now being loaded onto buses. We're told they're being taken to Victory Church, where their parents can pick them up.
Traffic on I-4 in the area is backed up, as the search continues for the suspect.
Rest in peace, Officer Williams
Sheriff's Deputy Matt Williams

Sad ping.
My dad was a cop, it was something he wanted to do, but the dog has no choice in his job, and got blown away. This SOB deserves to die too!! Maybe a a poison snake will get him!

I expect the ACLU to throw a tantrum.
my ex-girlfriend's family lives in Lakeland, her dad's a cop, but he works for Polk County (I believe). Glad it wasnt him, but very sad news indeed.
Prayers for the family of the deceased. =(
Very sad. Prayers for this Officer his family and his dog.
I hope they do balistics tests.

Ya think this guy may be African-American?? Ya think?
I lived about 20 mins. from the area until 2 yrs. ago. This is just infuriating .. here it is dark, and who knows where that killer creep is hiding now. I hope they've got a slew of canine officers and dogs smelling for that monster and get him pinned down quickly before he invades some poor soul's house. He had a fake ID, a Jamaican accent, was in a rental car, and had a gun!
correction: I meant to say "a different jurisdiction" in Polk County, not too close to Lakeland. I realize Lakeland is in Polk County. My mistake.
and I hope theyre not too gentle when they apprehend him...
The thug is a black man.I live in Lakeland, FL. I'm sure that the Klan with the Tan the NAALCP and the Anti Christian Loonatics Union(ACLU) will defend this human debris and say that the whites made him kill the deputy.
Terrible news..
RIP Officer Williams & Oliver will greet Diogi at the RAinbow Bridge..
Thank God for our peace officers & how they put their life on the line each & every day.
I know .. I cry just as much for the Shepherd as Officer Williams. Hope it was quick for both of them, and they were quickly transported to peaceful meadows.
The latter three aren't especially unusual, Florida is not far from Jamaica, it has lots of rental cars, being a tourist trap destination, and it is, according to certain hoplophobes, "The Gunshine State".
But honest citizens, or legal residents for that matter, rarely have use for fake IDs.
The sad thing is that this Shepherd valued and protected human life more than the animal who took his.
The DemonRats of Fla and US support pond scum and Muslim thugs who kill police and and our citizens.
yes, that is true. I am a sucker for animals & truly beieve I could harm/kill someone I saw doing serious abuse. That scares me about myself.
When he was first stopped by the deputy, the suspect identified himself as Eswardo O. Ramclaim, 32, of Miami, but Polk authorities dont believe thats his real name.
Ping to the suspect above.
