PHOTOGRAPHER Larry Birkhead, a former boyfriend of Anna Nicole Smith, says he is the real father of the former Playboy model's newborn girl — and he is seeking a DNA test to prove it.
Smith's lawyer, Howard Stern, told CNN's Larry King Live that he is the "proud father" of the girl, Dannie Ray Hope, born September 7, and he plans to marry Smith "at some point".
"Right now we have to somehow get through what we're going through," said Mr Stern, referring to the September 10 death of Smith's son, Daniel Smith. "And I'll tell you, our baby is the one ray of hope," he said.
In an interview on Us magazine's website, Birkhead calls Mr Stern's remarks "laughable". "Larry King didn't even believe Howard," he said.
Birkhead says science can settle the matter. "I have asked for a DNA test and I welcome it."

I see the makings of a new TV quiz show here. "Who Is the Father of Anna Nicole's Baby?" Each week would feature a new contestant who would then present his case, and the audience would decide whether or not his claim was credible. What do you think?
I saw this kid (the photographer) discuss this in a two-segment interview face-to-face in Greta's studio. He appeared very credible, IMO, and seems interested only in participating in the upbringing of what he believes to be his progeny.
I wonder if the baby being born in and presently residing in the Bahamas can preclude a DNA test without the voluntary cooperation of the mother?
I'd bet that she became pregnant by the younger man and then slept with the (more wealthy) attorney and told the latter he was the father.
That poor little baby was only born less than 3 weeks ago and she has been named Hannah, Hannah Rose, Dannie, Dannilynn Hope, and now Dannie Ray Hope.
I suppose she will have to go through a succession of different last names, too. Smith, Hogan, Marshall, Birkhead, Stern.
It's the perfect venue for Greta.
However, if you want to get serious and get some real answers on one of life's greatest issues, you should consider a hard hitting news hound with some real credentials -- like Jerry Springer.
Pitch it to Fox Entertainment Division...they'll buy anything!
Who knows? It was announced two days after Daniel died that there had already been a paternity test on the baby and that the results were confidential.
What we do know is that historically, Nicole marries for love. :-)

That show is funny! One girl had 14 different guys on 14 different shows, none proved to be the father. Yet, each one she 'swore' was the father to her baby.
In the Anna show, maybe we will see the men go screaming and running off stage after each finds out "In the case of Anna Nicole Smith's newborn child, you are NOT the father!"
