Angelina Jolie has spent £200,000 on works by British guerrilla artist Banksy at his high-profile show in Los Angeles.
The glamorous actress's purchases included a white bust with a bleeding bullet hole in the forehead.
Banksy's US exhibition hit the headlines earlier this week when it emerged that a live elephant which had been spray-painted as part of the display was scrubbed down by officials after complaints from animal activists.
Banksy's elephant loses its paint job
Jolie, who attended the opening of the show with boyfriend Brad Pitt, spent £120,000 on a painting called Picnic, which depicts a white family of four lunching under an umbrella while 15 starving Africans look on, US magazine Star reported.
The bullet-ridden bust, which an onlooker said she 'went nuts for', cost £40,000 while the star was said to have spent the same amount on a portrait of a man hit in the head with a custard pie.
The Barely Legal exhibition by Bristolian Banksy focused on global poverty and injustice. The 38-year-old female elephant, named Tai, had been painted with non-toxic paint in the same red and gold pattern as the exhibit's walls, and was placed in a living room.
Cards handed out at the opening said: "There's an elephant in the room. There's a problem we never talk about" - and went on to explain that many people live below the poverty line
How ironic. White people make and spend money on foolish artwork while black Africans starve.
Lets see, give money to the poor or buy art for big bucks from an artist who expliots their poverty. Hmmmmmm.
For 120,000 pounds, I think you could have actually fed a few Africans you dumb bitch. God I hate her.
LA MOMA had a huge bash celebrating African artists a couple years ago. The artists used whatever was available to them in their villages.....elephant dung....mud...plants.... and came up with some beautiful sculptures, paintings and woven articles. To me....THIS is art....making something beautiful from nothing.....and utlimately capturing the imagination of all those who come into contact with it.....
I now have to feel guilty if I go on a picnic with my family. I'm the cause of their suffering, but the big, fat black dictator that rules over them has nothing to feel guilty about.
