But Democrats assure us that everything will be just hunky-dory in these youth propaganda camps, if only we will reach down into our pockets and dump a few more billion into the gaping maw of this "public school" butterfly farm. And we, the idiots, buy it every time.

The Republican idea of vouchers lends a solution to the failed school system. This idea has been fought and shot down at every turn. And as a homeschooler, I say "Thank God!" and "Please keep it up!"
I don't want the money; I'd rather have the freedom. Government NEVER lets you have both.

Good Post, but the powers to be, teacher's unions and Democrats will make it very hard to reform.

The education industry has never been better or more successful. Each year more money per, ahem, 'student' is being raised and each student is signed up for ever more years learning less and less.
Some numbers. The Los Angeles Unified School District admits to spending $20,000 per student per year. This does not include state and federal money that is won to support this industry, its workers and agents. I suspect that the cost of a certified high school graduate in LA is running at half a million plus( all moneys spent, divided by certified graduates).
The Newark, New Jersey education industry is so successful that in brings in nearly one billion dollars in revenues for workers, and local education industry supporters. Newark graduates, at unknown quality but I think we can guess it is low, two thousand students a year. So, a real honest to God High Scholl graduate runs over 750K.
A recent article on Chicago two year local collage industry reports success of %17 graduation after six years of revenue reaping. The head of the collage, said she was unaware of this success and didn't get, nor keep, such good numbers.
Following the socialistic Soviet production model, American citizens can expect every and ever higher profit, and increasing size and success of their education industries.

There - their - they're
Your - you're
Then and than get screwed up a lot as well.
These things bugs me but since I didn't attend college
i usually feel i have no room to criticize.
I did, however, come in second in the fourth grade spelling bee. ;o)
