Porter seen pumping fist, laughing as Brooks is sacked

ESPN.com news services

When Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss said of his team, "things are crazy around here," he wasn't kidding.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on its Web site that disgruntled receiver Jerry Porter who was inactive for the 27-0 drugging the Raiders absorbed from the San Diego Chargers on Monday night, was seen laughing and pumping his fist on the sidelines when Raiders teammate Aaron Brooks was sacked for the seventh time.

Porter's role on the team has greatly diminished after he clashed with new coach Art Shell in the offseason over his offseason workout plans. Porter demanded a trade at the start of training camp, but the Raiders have declined to grant his wish.

Porter was slowed by a calf injury early in training camp but was healthy for the final three preseason games and was not listed on the team's injury report leading up to the game. He was on the sideline in street clothes for this game.

"As far as Jerry Porter is concerned, I really don't know where he stands, what the organization has in store for him," Moss told Fox Sports Radio last week. "So the only thing I can do is worry about the guys they're putting on the field."

Porter led the Raiders with 76 catches last season and had 942 yards receiving and five touchdown receptions in 2005.

One one hand this makes me feel a bit better for the Pack (whatever that's worth), but it kills my fantasy team.

the 27-0 drugging the Raiders absorbed

Drugging? Interesting term - don't think I have seen it used in this context before.

I had Brandon Lloyd and Lamont Jordan going last night and I needed 5 points to win in a point per reception league. I got one freaking point out of both of them. 20 yards rushing from Lamont. I am depressed. I had an early August draft and took Lamont over Ronnie Brown. I screwed up.

I have already benched both of them. Julius Jones and Michael Clayton are taking their place.

Don't play them this week because they are going to face the Raven's defense in Baltimore. They will be on the business end of another drubbing.

Funny how spell-check can't keep people from finding out your illiterate, whatever happened to editors anyway?

Plus I am a Ravens fan. So Lamont is not getting the start. Eventhough he is a Maryland Alumni, after what the Ravens did to Tampa, I would not start anyone against that defense.

I have to give Chris Simms credit, I would have messed my pants when Ray Lewis was blitzing right up the middle of the line at me and then body slammed me into the ground for the sack.

Simms was getting pummeled on nearly every play. Rex Ryan brings the heat from so many places. This defense has lots of scary characters like the 2000 version.

I am a Ravens fan too and will be there Sunday. It is going to be gruesome.

Gruesome indeed. I have been trying to temper my excitement for the Ravens since Sunday. I have been telling myself it was just one game against an NFC team. Tampa's line was beat up. However, if the Ravens can stay healthy, I see good things in their future.

Remember though the Bucs D was #1 in the NFL, defending NFC South Division Champs and not easy to move the ball on. They were intact as a team with 20 of their regular starters. Only their two starting guards were out. The guys who played usually have significant playing time as most teams play 8 offensive linemen.

Jerry Porter is the least of the Raider's problems.
