No Lobsters or Crabs at Two Big Grocery Chains (Canada- Thanks Peta!)
CFRA News ^ | Saturday, June 17, 2006 | Jason McIntyre

Posted on 06/17/2006 3:10:21 PM PDT by fanfan

Lobsters and crabs aren't on the menu at two major grocery stores.

Whole Foods Market, an American natural supermarket chain, is halting live lobster and crab sales. A representative from the store says it's just not humane.

The US company joins Safeway in the decision.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an international rights group, applauds the move.

Mark Prescott from PETA says the two chains made a smart choice to spare the animals from the cramped and filthy environments.

No one in their right mind buys from Whole Foods anyway. They're a damn hippie joint.

F*** this! Lobsters and crabs are FOOD! Not freakin' pets. Who cares how cramped their aquariums are?

I just got back from Boston and was LOVING their seafood. But I can't enjoy in here in the Midwest, thanks in part to crap like this.

I say anyone that caves to the PETA PHREAKS deserves to be drawn and...buttered...themselves!

It might hurt sales at Whole Foods. You know how those libs love to eat well and do whateverthehelltheywant while telling the rest of us what NOT to do. *Smirk*

They also love their Organic Wines. But, but don't grapes have feeeeeeeelings too? ;)

Seriously, a lobster has about as much cognative thought as a fish or a grasshopper. Yeesh.

Correct. It's lobsteresque. When my dinner can discuss the issues of the day with civility, it'll get the humane treatment.

I've never even seen a Whole Foods store. Where I live, we have a vegetable store. They have the best produce at the lowest prices, plus flowers, some bread, nuts, etc. Whole foods, but it's not a chain, just a good store. Right next door is the meat store, where we get the best fish and meat. I'm guessing Whole Foods is more expensive than where we go. And no, they don't sell Yoga magazines or herbal remedies.

I was at Wegman's this morning admiring the big lobsters bouncing around in their tank, and asked the fish guy if they were going to follow "Whole Foods'" lead on this. He hadn't heard about the story and looked at me like I'd said something crazy (which, in fact, I had).

He said, "It's not my name on the front of the store, but I really don't think so." :)

You're right. They WILL continue to sell frozen and canned lobster and crab products. You just won't be able to pick out your own live lobster of crab from a tank in the store.

After a day fishing in the ocean a fisherman is walking from the pier
carrying two lobsters in a bucket. He is approached by the Game Warden who
asks him for his fishing license.

The fisherman turns to the warden, "I did not catch these lobsters, they are
my pets. Everyday I come down to the water and whistle and these lobster
jump out and I take them for a walk only to return them at the end of the
day," he says.

The warden, not believing him, reminds him that it is illegal to fish
without a license. The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "If you don't
believe me then watch," as he throws the lobsters back into the water.

The warden says, "Now whistle to your lobsters and show me that they will
come out of the water."

The fisherman turns to the warden and says, "What lobsters?"

Be very careful. The quality of liberal meat is suspect at best. You can never be sure where they've been.

Who'd have thought that it was about protecting the delicate sensibilities of liberals and not the animals themselves?

Oh yeah, US.

A guy was down on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco when he saw a seafood restaurant and a sign on the Specials Board which read, "Big Lobster Tales, $5 each." Amazed at the great value, he said to the waitress, "$5 each for lobster tails ... is that correct?"

"Yes", she said, "It's our special just for today."

"Well", he said, "they must be little lobster tails."

"No," she replied, "It's the really big lobster."

Are you sure they aren't green lobster tails - and a little bit tough?"

"No", she said, "it's the really big red lobster."

"Big red lobster tails, $5 each?", he said, amazed. "They must be old lobster tails!"

"No, they're definitely today's."

"Today's big red lobster tails - $5 each?", he repeated, astounded.

"Yes", she insisted.

"Well, here's my five dollars," he said, "I'll take one.

She took the money and led him to a table where she invited him to sit down. She then sat down next to him, put her hand on his shoulder, leaned over close to him and said, "Once upon a time there was a really big red lobster ..."
