But CD burners helped bring about their demise.

Of course, but at the time ZIP drives came out they were a good and useful product. I think it's unfair to complain about their media cost when, at the time they debutted, they were for many applications price-competitive with CDs as well as being faster and more convenient.

Had ZIP drives not debutted until after USB flash drives had taken over the scene, then they could be rightly called a joke. And Iomega did come out with a little drive (forget the name) that seemed a bit silly. But ZIP drives were a good and useful interim product.

"PDF files should be #1 No matter how fast your connection they still take forever to load and there's always a 50-50 chance they will crash your system. Even opening a saved one on your computer takes forever as Adobe has to open each individual *.dll & *.ini file one by one. They are mind bending slow to navigate also."

AAAAAAAAAA-men!!!

Regarding Filemaker, try FMPRo 8. We use it for single user and small network apps as it is multi platform - and for quick prototyping.

See PC Mag review
"An evolutionary improvement over its predecessor, FileMaker Pro 8 remains the easiest way for knowledge workers to build polished database applications."

You can download a 30 day demo from
