Britney Spears' child-care techniques seem to be growing positively "Toxic" - she nearly dropped her 8-month-old son on his head yesterday as she tottered out of a posh Manhattan hotel with a glass in one hand and the tyke in another. The baby-bobbling bungle began at about 6 p.m., as the "Not That Innocent" pop tart left the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Central Park South, holding her kid, Sean Preston, and what witnesses said was a tumbler of water and ice (photo, far left).
While heading to a car, her long pants appeared to get tangled in her open-toed shoes (inset, far left) just as she stepped past a pothole, witnesses said.
Then - oops! - Britney started to tumble. Sean Preston's head whipped back in what a witness called a "violent manner," his chubby arm swung up and his little hat went flying off .
"Her bodyguard had some good reactions," an onlooker said of the quick catch . "[He] grabbed the baby before he hit the floor."
Despite the tumble, Britney managed not to spill a drop of her drink. Then she muttered to fotogs in her Louisiana accent, "This is why I need a gun."
The incident left her clearly shaken up - afterwards she was seen in tears at FAO Schwarz (right inset).

Britany went to the Wacko Jacko school of child rearing oops me bad
Mother of the Year.
Yeah. Like this never happens to everyday people. If the kids gonna be screwed up, give some credit to the media for following them around day and night, splashing events they'd ignore if they happened to Joe Nobody all over the front page.
Is there anyone who hasn't had trouble holding onto a baby, and that without paparazzi distracting you?
Before the car seat law, my kids slept on the car floor and on the window ledge in the back of the car..before they did away with it.
OK, I was a bad Mommie..
At least Brittney is spending time with her child.

Oh, for heaven's sake. I'm no fan of Britney, but tripping isn't abuse. They don't seem to be suggesting she was drunk or drugged.
I fell while holding a baby about that age, and a glass, while celebrating the 2004 election around noon on the day after. Saved the glass and the baby from hitting the ground, but I sprained my ankle and scraped my shin.
I wouldn't blame this woman if she did get herself a gun and bag a photographer or two. She can't step outside without being hounded by papparazzi trying to take unflattering pictures and discover (or manufacture) evidence that she is a bad mother. It really has become a blood sport.
water and ice my foot!
Most of us would put down the drink.
My granddaughter threw on me last week.
Oh....I'm not famous....mybad.
The tabs should back off.
Brit is simply getting in touch with her inner urban self.
Her reflexes must have kept her from hitting her head too hard. I swear babies are made of rubber.
Yes, I have since told her about the incident. :-/
What do you expect from mag that brought you Jared Paul Stern?
My sentiments exactly - if I were rearing my children in today's climate, I'd be in jail! (They turned out just fine, amazingly!)
To be fair to the photographers, it's not their fault she dresses that way!
Illustration of my #16 :-).
When I was six and my little sister was ~2, I was running her stroller down the driveway and stopped suddenly. She kept going. I got in trouble.
We live in thse most interesting of times and yet some fourth estater is out there trying to make this silly broad look bad.
I don't know how good a mother Britney is but I do know that no one who was followed around by a camera crew couldn't be made a fool of and made to look bad in this way.
