Adults in the United States remain upset over their country’s involvement in the coalition effort, according to a poll by Hart/McInturff released by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News. 52 per cent of respondents think removing Saddam Hussein from power was not worth the number of U.S. military casualties and the financial cost of the war. ..[snip]

When respondents are informed that the coalition effort has cost an estimated $170 billion U.S.—and reminded that approximately 2,400 American soldiers have died—the level of rejection to the war reaches 56 per cent.

If we pull out of Iraq, ala Vietnam, I doubt our ability to win a war again. The media has a strong hold on the sheeple.

Its terrible.

And if "reminded" what all the captured documents say about the Iraqi air force recruiting suicide volunteers six months prior to 9-11 to strike at "American interests" I wonder how those poll numbers would change.

The questions are asked in a vacuum. If they asked questions about the war on terror, whether we have suffered a major attack here since 9/11, etc, then asked these questions, I wonder if the responses would be the same.....

About 4 times as much as we were told it would cost. When Bush's economic advisor - forget his name - predicted it would cost $60 billion, he suddenly discovered that he wanted to pursue "other interests" and his job opened up. Like so much else about this war, the official cost estimates were wrong-headed, if not outgright deceptions.

Is there anything that the government does that ever costs less than what they estimate?

When the Islamo-Facists, attack our Soil Again.....

The "price" sofar will seem cheap.

We must be willing to go all the way.

They are.

I say we set a new price...kill an American, destroy Mecca.

Kill another American.....Triple the price.

When they call for Negotiations.....Repeate step 2.

$170 billion for overthrowing a brutal totalitarian regime is small compared to the liberal welfare that the USA doles out to the tune of $1.7 billion per DAY (state & federal). And those recipients of such welfare murder more than 2500 Americans per year!

The new Iraq constitution declares Islam as the supreme law, and Christians who used to worship freely are being hounded out of the country. Yep, that's certainly worth increase the US debt (and US taxpayers' burdens) by $170 billion.

Also, all this new spending - and the high oil prices that disruption in the mideast is causing - may lead the GOP to lose Congress this year. Another high price for an unneeded war.

Greatly exaggerated. The Iraqi Constitution declares Islam to be the "official religion of the state," which I don't think is necessarily the best idea. However, the Article itself does not say that Islam is to be a religion forced onto the people of the country. It says in Article 7(A):

This Law respects the Islamic identity of the majority of the Iraqi people and guarantees the full religious rights of all individuals to freedom of religious belief and practice.

"Islam is the supreme law" is a grotesque overstatement.

We've spent more than $100 billion in Americans' hard earned money so Iraq can make Islam its "official religion." Another federal government boondoggle - - wasting my tax dollars as surely as all the spending to "rebuild" New Orleans and the Medicaire monstrosity and all the other spending binges.

As avacado pointed out, the amount of money to pay for the war is still miniscule compared to the cost most left-wing domestic programs. Welfare, social security, New Orleans and Medicaire, as you also pointed out.

While Islam is still "the official state religion," I think that may be mostly symbolic. The Iraqi Constitution does not give the government authority to infringe upon the beliefs of individuals, meaning the government itself still has secularist leanings. In any event, the Iraqi government itself is INFINITELY better than what will happen if the Islamists, Wahhabbists, and Mujahideens that we are currently fighting take over the country. It is also far better than Saddam's regime...he was persecuting and slaughtering Iraqi Christians and Jews very badly.

Iraqi Christians are mostly Chaldean Catholics, as well as Nestorian Syrians, but altogether they form about 3% of the overall population. Their numbers have been dwindling since the 1980s mostly because of poverty levels (which I'm sure Saddam's own needless war with Kuwait mostly created) and persecution from the regime.

--- """$170 billion for overthrowing a brutal totalitarian regime"""

The new Iraq constitution declares Islam as the supreme law, ---

Allow me to teach you some basic logic. This type of logic is called boolean and is used in computer chips, computer programs, engineering, and simple human logic.

First off Islam is not declared the SUPREME law. The Iraq Constitution only states that it is a basic source of legistation. Christianity is a basic source of legistation for the US Constitution - FYI.

Now on to the logic part. The Iraq Constitution states in Article 2:

(a) No law can be passed that contradicts the undisputed rules of Islam.

(b) No law can be passed that contradicts the principles of democracy.

(c) No law can be passed that contradicts the rights and basic freedoms outlined in this constitution.

Note that in the above there are 2 gate keepers for each item. If a proposed law is fine with Islam but not fine with one, or both, gate keepers it does NOT become law.

It's actually a brilliant piece of constitution and the Iraqis should be proud of that.

As for an "uneeded" war? It was needed in the 1990s and finally something is being down about it.
