Gotta name.
Katie Holmes gives birth
From correspondents in Los Angeles
April 19, 2006
HOLLYWOOD superstar Tom Cruise's fiancee Katie Holmes has given birth to the couple's first child, People magazine said today.
The baby, named Suri, weighed 3.4kg and measured 50.8cm, Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson said to the Associated Press.
Cruise's publicist Paul Bloch could not immediately be reached for comment on the report, but People quoted two "inside sources" as confirming the new arrival.
No other details, including the baby's gender or its date of arrival were immediately available, said People, which is regularly privy to celebrity scoops related to births, marriages and divorces.
The child would be a third for Mission Impossible star Cruise, 43, who has two adopted children with his ex-wife, Australian Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman.
It was the first baby for 27-year-old Holmes.
The Cruise-Holmes baby has been eagerly anticipated by the world's media since they announced they were expecting barely six months after they began dating.
The couple, dubbed "TomKat" by the entertainment press a combination of the first syllable of each of their first names began dating about a year ago.
They sparked a media frenzy when they announced in June they were planning to marry and then crowned the excitement in October with their baby announcement.

Ah, here we go. A girl.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have baby girl
SANDY COHEN
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES - The Tomkitten has arrived.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the high-profile pair dubbed "TomKat" by the media, had a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.
The baby, named Suri, weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long, he said.
"Both mother and daughter are doing well," Robinson said in a prepared statement.
The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," the statement said.
The baby was born in Los Angeles but the exact location was not disclosed.
It's the first child for Holmes, 27, and the first biological offspring for Cruise, 43. Cruise has a daughter and son from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
Details surrounding the birth, which was planned under the tenets of the Church of Scientology as a silent procedure, weren't disclosed.

Mum's the Word for Tom's Katie

Katie Holmes can break out the noisemakers: She and Tom Cruise are parents.
Cruise and Holmes "joyously welcomed" a baby girl, named Suri, on Tuesday, a statement from the couple's publicist said. Mother and daughter are said to be "doing well." Father is presumably couch-hopping happy.
Suri, the statement explained, means "princess" in Hebrew and "red rose" in Persian. The girl weighed in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and registered 20 inches in length.

I have to hand it to Shepherd Smith for quick wit.
He said "She is named Suri which means princess in Hebrew, Red Rose in Persian, in in Oklahoma it's a 4 wheel pleasure vehicle with a fringe on top..."
