(Vanity) Why is Tancredo abondoning a run for 08?

What do you call a man who stirs up the pot to boiling and leaves the cooking to others? I call that man an agitator.

White House Run Not Likely (Tancredo!)

First elected to the House in 1998, Tancredo made immigration reform his top issue. As the issue mushroomed in the public's awareness, Tancredo became the national spokesman for those who want to stop illegal immigration.

Now, he says, other lawmakers are battling to take over his role - or, as he puts it, "out-Tancredo Tancredo."

Oh yeah? Who is that national spokesman, Tank? McCain, Giuliani, Romney, Rice, Clinton?

Doesn't Tancredo have a moral obligation to see this out? If he ran he would finally reveal the true majority of American voter’s deep and heartfelt passion to deport 12 million people to a country mired in corruption and poverty…It’s really the best thing for them. We all know, it is only a small minority of the majority of elected officials, corporations and small businesses, the illegals themselves, and the democrat base that opposes expelling illegals. The illegals can’t vote and for many real conservative the other groups aren’t really Americans anyways.

Why is Tancredo dropping out now?

The issue is red hot and according to his admirers Tancredo is dead on right about immigration and conservatism. It could propel him into the history books as the greatest President of all time. Even if a bill, one which conservatives can really accept, gets passed and signed the nation would be grateful for the utopia that would soon emerge. Why not parlay that into the Presidency? Illegal immigration is the most important issue we have had to deal with in our lifetime. The fate of our country is in jeopardy unless we address this issue immediately. The job ain’t done Tommy.

Has one illegal stopped spreading disease, or stopped sucking our health care system dry? Has one illegal stopped committing crime, stopped stealing our jobs, or stopped cashing in welfare checks? From every account I read at FR…from the evil and stupid Dubya, to the inept border patrol, and the secret plans of the One World Order, CFR, and La Raza things are worse today than yesterday. How can Tancredo forsake his disciples when his guidance is needed now more than ever? This is the issue that could launch a conservative sweep through out the nation. Tancredo is one of the few true conservatives to recognize the potential to eradicate crime, disease, and the contamination of our American culture. While the GOP flounders aimlessly in the Congress and the President has sold our sovereignty for 30 pieces of silver, Tancredo turns tail and flees.

"I get the feeling that I will not have to do this," Tancredo said of the presidential bid. "This issue, it's got legs, and they're not necessarily mine anymore."

WTH? Haven’t conservatives and the American voter screamed for leadership? I don’t understand why he does not lead on this issue. He will certainly get more attention as a Presidential candidate, riding the waves of voter adoration, for the brave way he stood up to his party and even his President. He pushed this issue to the party-continuous top of the junk media’s news cycle. Now what? Now he thinks he can fade from the limelight and let someone else carry his water?

Tancredo seems pretty sure immigration reform is a done deal, but he clearly has no faith in his ability to even shape the legislation. I wonder why he can’t capitalize on his leadership on this issue and his 100% name recognition in trailer parks strewn across this proud country? Perhaps he thinks he can rake in more donations when he returns in righteous indignation over the coming amnesty.

I think their are two main reasons.

1) He will be smeared by the main stream media to a level that has never been seen before. No matter how strong a person you are that is hard to stand up to or put your family and friends through.

2) Money. Big business wants amnesty and they will keep him from raising the money necessary to run.

Let's not forget that he never made any committment one way or the other and has often said that he doesn't really want the job.

It's 2 years away!!!! Also if he is 100% serious about immigration, he may not want to be accused of using it for political gain, ie. ......his run for the WH.

There will be at least one conservative who will run. Whether its Allen, Pence or Jeb remains to be seen.

Real conservatives can withhold their vote from both parties.

Staying at home or a vote for a 3rd party in Nov would send a strong message to both parties, we are sick of politicians putting the interest groups ahead of the people they are PAID to represent.

In the long run both parties have the same masters.

Because he never had a chance and he knew it.

Pretending to run for President is a lucrative enterprise. Just ask Tancredo's mentor, Pat Buchanan.

hmmm... curious why certain tancredo threads get pulled and others don't.

he's a legal citizen , he has rights, he has stated he is of mixed emotion re: running,, and has said if no one else will raise the immigration issue in 08 , he will..

he knows he won't win, stassen knew it too.

you'll have to ask his district voters why they keep returning him to office.

other than that,, have fun.

What potential candidate or candidates for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination could you support in a GOP presidential primary or caucus?

What current United States senator or United States representative holds views on immigration and illegal aliens that most closely resemble yours?

President Bush opposes construction of the fence authorized by H.R. 4437. Do you oppose contruction of that fence?

Do you believe any illegal aliens presently living in the United States should be given legal status? If so, which ones?

I was reading about him in April 8th issue of The Economist. He both seems a man of conviction, wich I like, and maybe to much of a hot head. Suggesting bombing Mekka is of course propostourous, and would in all other countries result in that MP having to leave parliment.

But it is very strange for me, that illegal immigration is not an illegal act, like I seem to have been reading in many articles about these things. What does that mean? How can that not be illegal to be illegally in the country? And it surprises me also how much government help illegals can get because there is no national registry. But it is also one of the things I love about the US, this distrust of government and national registrations and such.

Other thing I find very strange is this nearly unhindered influx of unskilled immigration from latin america, but no proper system it seems of channeling this work force legally into the country. And at the same time educated or semi educated europeans and people from other parts of the world face severe hindrance in settling in the US.

I am not saying I wished it was more open, as f.e. my country, tiny Iceland (pop. 300000) can not afford to loose more people out of the country, but it yet seems strange that Icelanders and other europeans going to the US for education can not extend their stay even though they are from similar backround (culturally and such) as most Americans, are well educated and would propably assimilate fast, faster than I would like them to.

The US is an immigration country, the land of the free, God´s own country and I beliewe you should not stop being such an open society. But it is strange these double standards. It reminds me of how open europe has been to muslim immigrants, wich we have completely failed to assimilate.

And it is of course a fact that the more people from a single or similar bacground, the more difficult it is to assimilate individuals in that group. On the other hand are latinos much more culturally close to both Europe and the US and should thus be more compatible to our respective cultures and thus more likely to adapt into our societies.

I have a few questons to those that oppose immigration, like supporters of Tancredo. Are you against all immigration or just illegal one? Should there be a proper mechanism for people to be able to emigrate to the US, and should it be rather open or rather closed for immigration? Should everyone that immigrates to the US be on the path to Citizenship, or should there be a system for allowing f.e. unskilled workers temporarely into the country without, or mostly without the change for such a path?

Is it possible to crack down on illegal immigration without channeling the pressure of coming into the country, specially from your southern neighbours, into some kind of legal program that allows them to immigrate, weather temporarely or not?

And one final question, should one of the foundations of the immigrationnation that the US is, the birth-right citizenship be abolished like Tancredo wants, or maybe abolished for at least the ones participating in a temporary workers program?

Best wishes from Iceland, where immigration is also an issue, although we mostly have it under control,

Leifur

I don't think he is well liked by the RNC, and I'm sure they will be reluctant to release campaign funds in his behalf. Can't run if the money is not there.

He is the closest we have to a "Mr Smith goes to Washington". So I have no doubt the slaves to K street hate his guts. Darkness can never stand the light.

I suggest that the grass roots America has stronger roots than the whores that will be funded.

Maybe we should start a citizen PAC for him

From the noise I hear on this forum by the RNC operatives, if they can help it he will not even make one primary. He's just not a proper party player and will not tithe by sponsoring economic legislation they deem appropriate.

A Citizen PAC will probably be the only way.
