In My city there is a law that each 911 call has to be investigated..granted it's not a big city..but I've been embarrassed twice this year because my home number is very close to 911..and I messed up only to have a cop stop by the office...
It's a true shame that city employees aren't held responsible for their action or lack of...

"Kimberly Harris, the union president of AFSCME Local 1023"
Maybe this is why they aren't held responsible for their actions.

So your number is what then, 912?

Years ago I dialed a number that required an area code. I dialed the area code, forgot the prefix (since it was similar to the area code) and dialed 9111. When the weird ring started I panicked and hung up. A few seconds later my phone rang. The 911 operator asked if I has just dialed the number. I explained my mistake. She said, "If it happens again, just let us know."
The operator in this article could have just called back the number if she really thought it was a prank -- or just have sent the police.

(I'm writing a post to a message board. I don't care if it's not grammatically perfect.)
