Vanity: Should We Have A Republican Revolt?

Posted on 03/31/2006 5:44:13 AM PST by Altair333

Please excuse the vanity, but in my view we are at the most crucial crossroads in the Republican Party's recent history.

My analysis of recent events is that the Republican party leaders such as Boehner and Hastert have made a very calculated and cynical decision. They have concluded that a Republican-controlled Congress can preside over the greatest spending increases since LBJ AND the greatest amnesty of illegal aliens in our history, in search of the elusive swing voter, and still have the Republican base support them.

As far as I'm concerned, I can hold my nose and vote Republican in spite of the spending, but if an amnesty bill passes as well I will register a protest vote of some sort (perhaps writing in Tancredo's name) in the 2006 election. Yes, I know full well that this is exactly what Ted Kennedy is hoping we will do.

But the fact is that the conservative base is now like the loyal wife of a philandering and drunken husband. That husband has concluded that he can do essentially ANYTHING he wants in pursuit of Latinos and pork spending addicts and we will patiently wait for him to come home drunk and forgive him in the morning.

Well, I for one have had enough. If an amnesty bill passes, I think the best thing that can happen for the LONG TERM interests of the party and the country is for the Republicans to lose control of the House of Representatives. Maybe then, folks like Boehner and Hastert will think twice before betraying their base.

I personally will only protest for the 2006 election, to make a point- I plan to vote Republican in 2008. But I think that, if amnesty passes, this will be a good time to revolt because Congress will have already decided against my views on all the important issues of the day. I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise, but this is my strong inclination at the moment. All assuming an amnesty bill passes, of course- if the House Republicans can find a spine I will happily support them in 2006.

The sad truth of the matter is that spending will likely go down if the D's are in charge, b/c the GOP as a committed minority (with some fire power in the WH and the senate) will throw the brakes on D spending plans. Even sadder, is the fact that spending will slow not b/c the R's are committed to limited government, but b/c they are committed to screwing the Dems.

I'm all for limited government - and for screwing the D's. So if we lose the gavels in November, I am not going to wail and cry. Most likely it will be an opportunity to do something about limited government - an opportunity we have squandered since we have solely been in charge.

The House of Representatives is where every nickel and dime of spending originates, as well as where 'impeachment' proceedings are breathed into life.

Personally, holding the House of Representatives is every bit as important as maintaining the White House.

I will never again vote for the lessor of two evils.
I will never again send money to the RNC, I will send money only to real conservatives!

What point? That, as blue-collar comic Ron White says,...."Ya can't fix stupid" ?

If you really wanted to put some teeth into your strategery,
you could start campaigning for Obama Barack for POTUS in '08.

Maybe THAT would finally grab the attention of the backstabbing RINOs in the GOP.

Holding a body is great. But actually doing something positive with that power is even better. I sincerely hope that Hastert and Boehner come to their senses and that we have a large Republican gain in the House in 2006. I'm convinced we can gain a lot of seats if we actually start appealing to AMERICAN VOTERS instead of folks waving Mexican flags in LA.

Yes, you will. As you watch what the Dems do to our global war against terrorism.

But hey, you just might get your wish of smaller government when a vehicle bomb wipes out Capitol Hill.

Right here in the middle of a fight over immigration you want to bring up budgets?

Take a few steps back, and think about the who, your sitting at home gives absolute power to.

We are at war, and yes many of the "republicans" or RHINO's have exposed themselves for not being conservative. However, replace them with conservatives and do not give in to the divide and conquer tactics being sown upon US in the majority.

We win nothing by turning over the people's house to the outright socialist/liberals, the real plantation masters.

This kind of protest vote is not for the general election. This is what the primary is for - weeding out the people you don't agree with and voting in the best. If the people you don't like still win the primary, you can assume most Republicans in your district don't agree with you. Then it's down to the lesser of 2 evils.

That's a pretty good point- I will definitely protest in the primary. I guess what I do in the general election will depend on how my Congressman votes. I won't vote Democratic regardless, though a write-in protest is always possible.

Loyalty to a party, at the expense of what is best for Americans is the wrong approach.

Well, I'm glad you're voting in the primary. I've noticed that most people that complain about the Republicans just vote in the general election and that's it. They don't participate in the party primaries. They don't participate in the caususes (for states that have them.) There's a lot of people I know locally that complain about the local Republicans, but when I went to the caucus last week - where we actually get to choose who gets to run in the primary- only a couple cared enough to show up. It's the people that show up that choose the direction of the party! I also volunteer for the conservative candidates. It's very hard to find people to actually work for something they believe in.

All I'm saying, I guess, is I'm tired of hearing people whine about the Republican party who just vote in the general election and send in $25 here and there. If they cared enough they would sacrifice their time, get off their butts, get away from the keyboard, and get down to local Rep, headquarters and do something!
