Wal-Mart has changed...a bunch.
Unbelievable!
Our small Wal-Mart would not carry Stolen Valor or Unfit for Command so if Brokeback is there I'll be very vocal. I won't be happy and neither will they if they have that movie. This is a small town with over 30 churches and one tavern, so they wouldn't want me outside with a sign!
I'm glad YOU can see into my soul. . . it happened to be mentioned at the office, prior to heading home and dropping by Wal-Mart, that Wal-mart STILL "censored" lyrics on CDs it sells. . . and yet will sell a LOT more controversial film. It was VERY odd. . .
Nope, not comparing them just stating a fact. They are both rated R. Obiviously, they differ in content, but hey, I just want people to be consistent.
Um, they sell "Basic Instinct", "Eyes Wide Shut", "9 1/2 Weeks", etc. All are movies based on "perversions" of one kind or another. My guess is they also sell "Se7en" (stupid spelling for a movie pronounced "Seven" based on the 7 deadly sins - very graphic movie), and other violent, graphic horror movies. How are any of these examples different from "Brokeback Mountain" in terms of family values? They aren't. It's just that BBM was about gay men and that's considered unacceptable. But murder and female nudity, well, that's okay I guess. /s
Personally, I would never buy any music from WalMart because I don't want someone else censoring my music. But that's my choice as an American adult. Buying for kids is a whole different matter.
I believe a company in Amarillo TX or an extension of the main corporation in Hollywood CA , Davis Anderson Merchandising is the distrubtor of all "Great Wall of Mart" media, music and movies around the country . They supposedly have a program that will make a 2 live crew CD (just the ones sold at wally world ) almost dead air per se....:o)
I know this will read as if I'm being combative, but this will not be my intention. I'm actually curious.
Consistent with what?
Did I miss something in the thread? (I reread it.)
Back when I drove a big truck for Howard Baer out of Nashville, a couple dispatchers/sales people got calls to haul for wall mart, and it caught on thru the ranks in the bullpen. The old man, Howard, had a meeting. He sat at the head of the table, and by now, half his team are looking/mouths are watering, over the potential new wall mart accounts. The Old man looked around and finally said..."Is wall mart good for America?" Everyone looked at each other and no one answered. He asked again, and still no one answered him. He got up, and as he walked out, he said, "When someone can tell me how wall mart is good for America, I will authorize you to haul their freight..."
Good man Howard was. To this day(that I know of) Howard Baer Trucking has not hauled a single load of wall mart goods.
You think selling R rated movies is odd?
And you're whinning about a post on the Internet. You do realize that, don't you?
And you're whining about me whining about someone whining. Isn't this fun? Where will it end? No one knows!
I believe the poster was commenting on the large display and not the fact that the movie was being sold at all.
What is everyone's beef with Wal-Mart? They are a retailer. Is retailing bad for America? Baer sounds like an old crank.
I'm not surprised.
I'd also not be surprised that they purchased low inventory levels for this one.
I cant imagine it would sell much.
Also, I believe it would have only been a contradiction of libertarian principles if the poster had expected the government to get involved. Unless of course you define libertarian as being an unprincipled anarchist and relativist who believes society should be forced to be fettered to the passions of the worst of its members.
Thats a bad question. There shouldnt be some moral superiority attached to the decision.
I better question would be does hauling frieght for WalMart fit into the H Baer business model.
It obviously didnt.
Brokebutt Mountain,,,the story of two men in the west who liked each other so much they felt compelled to insert their penises into each others anuses. Rated G,,,for gay.
:^}
Besides, there are "Wal Mart Queens" in places like Oklahoma who would love to pick up BBM.
Are people going to be forced to buy it?
The rest of it is very good, too. The beavers are minor comic relief; try not to miss the bigger message. :)
