March 20, 2006 - Fox has announced an early renewal for The Simpsons, and in a surprise move, has also renewed King of the Hill for an 11th season. This was expected to be the last season for Hill, and production had shut down on the animated series a year ago. However, Variety reports that Fox decided that the ratings were still strong enough to allow the show to continue. The entire staff of the show had moved out of their offices and on to other projects, but series creator Mike Judge was convinced to return after Fox was also able to also lure executive producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky back. Due to the amount of time necessary to produce the series, new episodes of King of the Hill won't be on the air until January 2007 at the earliest.
The Simpsons meanwhile will be returning for a remarkable 18th season, and in fact was given a two year renewal that ensures the animated series will remain on the air until at least the 19th season ending in spring 2008. The 400th episode of the show will air next year.
In other intriguing Fox-animated related news, voice actor Billy West has said on his website that Futurama will be returning with 26 new episodes. The series was cancelled in 2003, but recently rumors surfaced that there might be some new straight to DVD movies based on the show in the works. West said that the decision was instead made to bring the series back in its original form, but didn't specify if the show would be returning to Fox or another network. It wouldn't be the first time Fox has resurrected an animated series, having done just that with Family Guy last year

The saddest part is that I could really relate to Bender..
We can thank the fans who brought the Futurama DVDs and Adult Swim for their nightly airings of Futurama episode, which by the has held solid ratings for nearly half a decade. Without those two things, the renew of Futurama would have never happened.

Depending on how you look at it, it's already been done by Futurama, either by Fry dating a "Lucy Lu robot" or Bender getting a sex-change becoming engaged to Calculon.
Just discovered Kristin Gore, daughter of Al Gore, is the only female writer on the staff of "Futurama". Oh well. It is still a funny show! :)
