Dreyfuss isn't Canadian. He was born in Brooklyn NY in 1947. The only thing I recall is that his character at the end of American Graffiti ended up as a writer in Canada.

Dreyfuss played Duddy in "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" a film that takes place in Montreal--that's why you may think he's from Canuckistan.
