That is actually a good idea. It also makes it more convenient to unload grocery and stuff.

My mother witnessed a similar accident at a shopping center when a lady was hit in a parking lot by a hybrid. The witness' all stated that she walked right behind the car as it was backing up because she didn't know that the car was running.

The same issue happens with those electric golf cars you can't hear them as they approach you.
