"When we tell them it was shot in Canada, they're still interested in Wyoming," said Michell Howard, manager of the council's film, arts and entertainment office. "They don't hang up and call Alberta. They're intrigued in the story."
Wyoming Business Council spokesman Chuck Coon said he hasn't seen a movie generate this much interest in the state during his 15 years with the travel and tourism department.
"In terms of phone calls and Internet requests, it's usually slow this time of the year," he said. "This movie has changed that."

At The Boot, one of two bars in Riverton, owner Sally Lozier says that the movie has stirred up "a whole lot of controversy around here. The ranchers, the cowboys are really upset."
Brokeback hasn't hit town yet, so presumably these local critics haven't seen it. Nor do they plan to, if you ask Lozier. "I would not go see it. And that (sentiment) comes from every cowboy, every rancher and other individuals who have nothing to do with the (agricultural) community," she says.
Apparently WY doesnt really care about the thoughts of its community when it contradicts getting a few silkwearers to come and visit. Although, the WY gov't has to admit that the influx of vistitors will be out of place, what with their chiauhuahuas dressed in leather riding around in their pink "puppy porters" with tassles and sequins, that is not going to stop them from inviting potential capital to the state.
Although, I admit that the scenery looks nice from the previews, I'm not rushing to go over there. I find it hard to believe that the scenery is the 'only' reason that people are drawn to this place. That picture can be repeated a thousand times all over the country. I've seen plenty of movies with nice visuals without the unquenchable desire to visit the set.
To me this is just odd, compound that with the sentiment of most of the residents in WY.
Further, As previous posts would hint to. I just hate the short story, the premise, the purpose, the agenda, the praise, the hype, and the aftermath of BBM.
Sidenote: I got banned from DU on my 3rd post, b/c I suggested that maybe BBM wasn't as good as everyone made it out to be and that the main characters weren't in love, but rather a lusting relationship. I was banned immediately and told how it actually was a beautiful love story...

One poster even told of how he and his forlorn lover was "True story. I know a man who lives in Nevada and manages a cattle ranch. Not a "dude ranch" but an honest to God working cattle ranch. We met when we were both 23. That was a while back. We were lovers. He is the real thing. All man. All gay. I see his face in every single frame of "Brokeback Mountain" and it breaks my heart. He lives completely in the closet.

There is a way to move past homosexuality, but some most refuse to acknowledge that, maybe b/c there is such a push to centralize homosexuality as something completely normal.
But for me, if Given the choice btw an Isaac Mizrahi/Mario Cantone skipping around screaming with limp wrists and seethrough shirts or a normal looking/sounding guy who didnt turn gay and suddenly gain a lisp, weak wrists, and forced posture... I'll take the latter. (How is it that upon 'coming out' large numbers of gay guys suddenly develop a speaking lisp and softer voice, along with the propensity for shouting and a myriad of other stereotypical attributes) I've walked in closets before (just to grab a shirt for the day, mind you) but its not too bad in their, A/c, private lighting, and usually a bathroom nearby- not a bad place to be. I'd much rather deal with the the 2nd choice in business or in passing. . . Its a dangerous lifestyle that, much like alcoholism, can be overcome...

Why all the attention for this movie?
I talked to a person who saw the movie and she said the post office in Riverton wasn't even right. I'm not going to see such trash to find out. I grew up on a sheep ranch outside of Riverton in the 40s-50s. Never heard tell of such a thing.
I'd hate to be a rancher up there. They'll be spending half of their time now running off homosexuals who've infested their barns.

Ten+ years ago I pulled up to a small sporting goods store in Pinedale. At the time I had Massachusetts license plates. Walked in the door and the owner immediately started on a tirade about "that damned Teddy Kennedy, you don't like that bastard, do you!? He's ruining America!"
It took a few minutes before I guided him outside to my car, to show him my bright red and yellow bumper sticker "Elect Clinton", with the "C" rendered as a hammer and sickle.
When he saw that he laughed and calmed down.
Nope, I don't think Pinedale will be amenable to the fans of Brokeback Mountain.
You could always refuse to comment, thereby doing your part not to perpetuate the attention. right?
I just dont like the movie or its premises. Thats all.
I guess this is the liberals version of the Passion of the Christ. Low budget film that gets LOTS of free advertising, now how were both handled by the MSM and critics... ?
Maybe next we'll see Brokeback Mountain, The Early Years where the story begins with the two lovers being orphaned shortly after birth and being raised by different families only to meet when they both strike out on their own; think of it, gay sex, bi-sex, infidelity, incest and angst, all wrapped up in one package.
