While channel surfing last night I did happen to catch the lifetime achievement award going to Shirley Temple. It was a very nice and gracious reflection of her life and achievements, and Jamie Lee Curtis gave an outstanding presentation.
When Shirley got to the podium, she expressed her gratitude for having 3 wonderful careers, actress, mother/wife, and woorking in the US Government as diplomat to Uganda, which seemed to sullen the initial kudos. She immediately expressed that she was very proud to have worked for the Govt. sorta snubbing her nose at the snotnose libs in the crowd.
I'm sure it will win all the Film Actors Guild awards.
Grooooooannnnnnnnnn!
Groaning FReeper, Hidden RedNeck.
"Ever since Hollywood made "Heath Ledger's fag flick" I feel like throwing away my "Patriot" movie."
Ha! I can identify with your feelings. In spite of Ledger, I really like The Patriot. Mel Gibson rules!
Speaking of George Clooney, has anyone seen "Syriana"?
From watching the previews and commercials, it looked like it might be good.
See, industry people know that if you take away all the hooplah, it's just a mediocre film. That all being said, I'll probably see it when it's on video or TV.
You noticed that too.
I think Matt, uhhhh, ah forget it.
English Patient was awful
Thanks. ;) For all the (rightful) poo-pooing of theawards shows, the lampooning of the Hollyweirdos that happens on the FR live threads makes it all worth watching. I'm hoping to get some mileage out of that graphic.
I really don't think this means very much. When the movie was released, the only actor mentioned as a very likely Oscar nominee was Heath Ledger. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brokeback Mountain win the best picture Oscar and no acting Oscars.
The best picture winner not winning any acting Oscars is not that unusual. Lord of the Rings is a recent example of just that.
