A man who helped make famous the songs "YMCA" and "In the Navy" is still scheduled to be featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted," after failing to surrender in a San Mateo County courtroom today, according to San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Victor Willis, 54, the original policeman from the musical group the Village People, was scheduled to turn himself in today after a $200,000 warrant for his arrest was issued on Oct. 20.
Willis's new defense attorney Dean Johnson indicated Willis would appear in court today, although he failed to do so, Wagstaffe said.
Even though Willis wasn't in court, a crew from the criminal-busting TV show "America's Most Wanted," which has taped a segment on Willis and is expected to air sometime during the second week of February, came to court today, Wagstaffe said.
Willis was pulled over around 11 p.m. on July 11 in Daly City for an unspecified traffic violation in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue, according to police reports.
After being stopped, Willis was found to be in possession of 3.23 grams of cocaine and a loaded .45-gauge, semi-automatic handgun, according to the district attorney's office.
When questioned by officers, Willis reportedly gave a false name -- his brother's -- and had a fake license, the district attorney's office reported.
On Oct. 19 Willis reportedly left a phone message with his former attorney Kenneth Quigley informing him he would not be present at his Oct. 20 sentencing because of some needed dental work.
San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Mark Forcum issued a $200,000 bench warrant for Willis, who was out of custody on his own recognizance at the time.

Seriously, this gets him on Americas Most Wanted?!?
Thanks for the post.
So he has been communicating thru a lawyer?
I don't think he's gonna qualify for a diversion program,, he's obviously playing this out for all he can, a risky proposition in this case, imo.
Him straight? Moving from Greenwich Village to San Francisco? Naaaaaah.
Umm, what the heck is a ".45-gauge, semi-automatic handgun"?
Must be really big handgun, and this guy must have huge hands and be muscled like an ox. A ".45 gauge" would shoot a 2.22 lb. bullet!!!!!
Check this out... LOL!!
Not straight anymore.
not this $H!% again!

C'mon! I've got a hanging curveball for a "Please tell me it wasn't the gay one" post and you've got to foul it up for me? Thanks a lot.

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
PB once confided in me that the policeman was always her favorite VP. Something about the heat he was packing.
