Ben Roethlisberger reiterated a statement he made in the preseason when the second-year quarterback said the Steelers might have a worse record than last year but be a better team in 2005.
Speaking yesterday at an AFC championship game news conference that was televised by NFL Network, Roethlisberger said the Steelers (13-5) might be better than last season when they were 15-1, had the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs and lost to the New England Patriots in the conference championship game.

I always say, it's a lot easier to go horizontally.

Ben says ...................... ping.
"If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you damn well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler." Jack Lambert, 1990 Hall of Fame Introduction.
A Steeler Super Bowl victory could not hurt Swannee and the conservative movement, could it?
I hope Lambert gives credit to Joe Dimaggio for that quote. Is #58 running for governor too?
Buddies.............. he will work for Swannee to get him elected.
I think they are a better team this year in large part because of Willie Parker's running ability. I knew that getting Deuce from Philly wouldn't do them much good. Waste of money as Deuce was pretty well used up when the Steelers got him. Bus was getting old and his "tires" were getting worn out. Good for limited use only.
And Joey Porter was hurt for about half the season. See how the Steelers go when he is healthy. They win more games.
Watching ESPN last night, Chris Berman is now picking the Steelers to win by three and the Panthers to lose by three. He says both visiting teams can't win.
It's a football fact that anything can happen, but the Steelers are a better team and all the players have great trust in each other. That is important.
I just pray for as few lucky breaks either way. Without bad luck, Pittsburgh will win, imo.
Yeah, especially since "bad luck" can be created by officials.
Yeah they tried there damnedest to change the outcome of the Colts/Steelers game ... fortunately the Steelers prevailed ... had they not the game would have been stolen from them by horrendously poor officiating. So poor, in fact, it would easily lead one to believe the referees had predetermined who the winner would be ... and it wasn't the Steelers.
I think that works out for Pitts because I am not sure if they play better at home or not.
I thought the "no interception" call against Troy P. had to be fixed. How else could they screw up so badly? It wasn't an interception because Troy never stood up when the ball was in his possession, the officials said. If someone intercepts the ball on his knees, then is touched before he gets up, it is still an interception. I knew the call would go against the Steelers when the officials took forever reviewing the play.
The non-interference call against Randall-El was another one.
That game could very easily have been 34-10 Steelers. But the bad officiating kept it close for the Colts.
Well, they sure are better since the Patriots lost....
Go Seahawks!
And Big Ben was just fearless, and so accurate.
I really believe the Steelers will be prevail. They've got quite a team this year, and no Kordell Stewart.

The head linesman is the official that sets up straddling the line of scrimmage on the sideline designated by the referee. His duties include:
Watch for line of scrimmage violations like offsides and encroachment
Rule on all out-of-bounds plays on his side of the field Keep tabs on the chain crew
Mark the chain to a yard marker on the field as a reference point for a measurement on the field
I have noticed over the past couple of years how VERY EASY it is for this official to alter the outcome of the game.
For example: When there is a third and short and the play leaves the ball very close to the first down line........... the head linesman comes running in from his spot ("straddling the line of scrimmage"). All he has to do, if he wants to cheat one way or the other, is to run toward the center of the field, veer off just a few inches, and have the ball spotted where he decides. It is perfectly SIMPLE for him to cheat. I have noticed a lot of very bad spots in the NFL and in some college games. It happens way too much!
I think it is very easy to effect the outcome of a game just by doing this type of thing.
Also, it's been said that offensive holding could be called on any play of the game if a ref wanted to call it. Sometimes the refs rule the game just by NOT calling holding when it happens. Officiating and bad breaks are the two things about football that bother me.
The Steelers will win if everything is on the up and up.
If anyone knows, which official has "the last word" on where the ball is spotted????
I needed you yesterday when I posted a rant. Go Hawks is right. I was fighting off all the Carolina (and NY Giant and Bears) fans by myself for some time.
I saw Hasslebeck on PTI yesterday (a good Republican by the way) and he was very good, "we're the underdogs, how will we ever win, the experts all know Carolina is better," very cool. Gotta love the bald baller. He also said he was worried about Alexander when he heard him listening to country music!
Faneca is an animal too, and Hampton is like having a barn fall on you.
;-)
Would you like on my Steeler ping list, btw?
