The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think it's a free for all for the stockings. That's why half the group of HHers seems to be armed in some fashion.

I'm here! I'm here!

What a lovely new Hobbit Hole. :-D

And the new name has Pippin's voice ringing in my head.

It is ExGeeEye's work, but he was going to add something to the right side table... and it's not full size :~D

Updates may still be on their way :~D

I know - the last part of this verse is very familiar... and has a sad tone to it.

It's sortof like ambrose, who used to post "If I see another albino ectomorph I'll puke" on every LoTR thread.

That was one of the more beautifully done parts of the ROTK movie, imho.

What're we going to do when we run out of lyrics?

My guess is we'll start another poem.

Fortunately, LOTR is full of 'em!

Agreed. PJ can edit... better when he puts away the chain saw :~D

Well, we could pick another one, as Ruthy suggests... or we could just stop talking. :~D

*snort*

Definitely.

I wonder if King Kong will have that "creative editing" as well?

I think this definition is the one that applies:

ectomorph (n) : a person with a thin non-muscular body

As opposed to:

mesomorph (n) : a person with a well-developed muscular body

So perhaps ambrose wouldn't have complained if ~Arnold~ were cast as an elf.

Or perhaps Mr. T. We don't know if it was the build, or the lack of color, was the most objectionable :~D
