I have been trying for weeks now to update Norton Antivirus and all I get is an endless loop of downloads and instructions that never work. I'm sick of it.

Does anybody know of a decent free antivirus that actually works?

I've been using AVG for years now, on my home computers (free version) and on a network I manage (licensed version.) It is superb - but not enough.

You should also be running a software firewall and spyware software.

http://zonelabs.com - poke around until you find the free version of Zone Alarm

There are a lot of good options out there for spyware stuff.

Thanks guys.

I have Spybot-Search and Destroy and Ad-aware 6.0 installed and run them at least once a week. I deleted ZoneAlarm when I first got Norton and there were compatibility issues.

I'm going to take a look at your suggestions right now.

AVG Free is excellent. Norton Anti-virus and Zone Alarm seem to slow computers down a lot. I rely on the hardware firewall built into my DSL modem and so far, so good.

I use AVG, but have had good service in the past with this one:

Avast!

Look for the "Home Edition."

"Microsoft AntiSpyware offers a capable spyware scan and removal engine that has proven superior to popular freeware offerings like Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Microsoft AntiSpyware goes even further, letting you purge Internet caches, recently used file lists, and cookie files to better ensure your privacy."

Ad-aware, Norton, and this....so far so good.

Thanks for your tips and guidance. I installed AVG and it found two Trojans that have been sitting there.

I'm shutting down for a couple of weeks now as I'm going out of state on a job.

Real work, not another 7-11 robbery. (bad attempt at humor.)

Thanks again everyone!

I'm suprised that no one has suggested System Suite 6 from Vcom.

I've been using it for the last 3 years, and it does everything I need:
Spyware removal
Anti-Virus with Cleaner
Personal Firewall
Anti-Spam protection
And More... Maint etc.

Cost is about $35.00 but well worth it.

check-em -out at Vcom.com

I've been using Avast for about 3 weeks now. No problems,it works well. Since I'm careful where I surf and what I download, I haven't had any attacks in ages.
