The problem, as I discovered those many years ago; is that this "strapping" concept is really unattractive when wearing an opaque or fine-fabric blouse or dress. Looking at the photo at this site? I'd add a lacy "patch" in the middle of the bar-strap. Something with a texture, embossed, delicate, so it resembled a "fabric tattoo" under the blouse/dress.

Very nice. It is healing to work with one's hands. I find the same joy working in the gardens.
KNITTING SOCKS

The Maiden’s cheek wears a paler shade,
But the light in her eye is undismayed;
Faith and hope give strength to her sight,
She sees a red dawn after the night.

To know that at Home the loving and true,
Are knitting and hoping, and praying for you?

Hi,
This is my first time on, but it looks like so much fun just talking on crafts or whatever. I'm knitting right now for my 7 grand daughters which are getting either poncho's or cardigan sweaters. I want to learn to do socks with circular needles, does anyone know how? Also want to learn to knit lace, again anyone know how?
What is your favorite way to cast on when knitting? Is there a right way?
It counts what you're doing. Certain castons work better than other for certain things, but I mostly use the thumbing method.
Hi, Moneypenny...I never have quite mastered the 2 circular method, although some folks love it. I have used the one where you use a very long circular, and pull out tails to make it small enough. I think they call that the magic needle method or something like that. I just rather use dps. I don't know about what other people thing.
I use the thumb method also, but someone told me the stitches twist. Oh well, I will keep on doing what I am doing. I still need to work on tension and not cast on so tight. I do knit to gauge.
