FDR must be rolling in his grave at the site of the culture he has wrought. As I watch the video footage of the people in New Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina I ask myself why they don’t just start walking out. I listen to their plaintive wails bemoaning the lack of assistance they are receiving either from the city state or federal authorities. Why don’t they just leave? It is because that generations of entitlement conditioning has been imbued into these people. They have lost the ability to DO for themselves! They have no hope, they live hour by hour. Violence is their only tool left for self preservation. Yes, how proud FDR would be to see his great society in NO today.

It was the "greatest generation" and their parents who elected idiots like FDR, LBJ, and every Democratic congress that created the hellhole that is much of urban America. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

As I was watching them evacuate people off the roof y-day, I thought about what i would do. (I have been thinking a lot about what i would do in a similar situation, and it has been eye opening).

anyway, if it were me on that roof, I would have been doing something, even if it were wrong. I thought of taking apart the roof, board by board, and making a raft. that is probably what I would have done.

The shingles, piled one atop the other could make a flat surface for sleeping.

A piece of glass would make a great reflector, for signaling passing helicopters.

Collecting ropes, strings and wires are excellent survival material (for making my raft, or tying my roof mates together).
I would not have passed up a helicopter rescue, but if it never came, i would have had a plan abd some action toward completing that plan.
