Welcome to California Speedway - Fontana, California

I debated how, when and where to post this thread based on the horrible disaster facing our country from hurricane Katrina. I decided to just go ahead and post it here in chat now and we would take each day as it comes.

Back atcha. It almost seems like "Uh, should we even be doing this??

And then I say, Oh, yes. We can take care of business on more than one front. There are NASCAR fans who are directly impacted, who might get to a radio or TV to see the race.

Let's Roll!!

That's what I thought don-o.

The rest of us will not be able to afford to go out with the price and/or lack of gas now, but we can watch racing.

I have prayed for those directly impacted by this. And I was directly able to help a family find a place to stay here in Texas.

Many will help in the days to come, that I am sure of.

Thanks for the ping.

I continue to pray daily for those in the Southland, as well as all those that venture into Harm's Way.

Thx for the ping, unfortunatley, I'll be driving to my dad's in Reno for the holiday weekend, so I probably won't be logged into FR until late Sun nite and will have to listen to the race over my XM.

I too numbed by all of this destruction to comment. I think we are getting too much video.

Gas went up 28 cents a gallon today to $3.26 a gallon for no reason because all our fuel is refined in state and the crude is home grown in California or Alaska..

Thanks so much for the ping, WCG. It was a welcome change to receive a non-related Katrina ping. I had to look twice. I think we've all prayed, watched, read, etc. and are on overload. As of this evening, my tears have definitely turned to anger. I can't believe it is taking so darn long to help those people.

I wonder what the race/crowd will be like this weekend.

Thanks for hosting this weeks thread.

I was all bummed out the race was sundy night, thinking I had to work Monday. DUH! It's a holiday. Woo hoo!

I wonder if there will be another "sleeper" wake up like we had last week.

Junior won't give up the Chase despite odds...article Dallas

FORT WORTH – Dale Earnhardt Jr. came to Texas Motor Speedway Wednesday to help the Fort Worth police in advanced training for high-speed chases.
Junior drove a Corvette on the TMS road course while the cops pursued him in police cars.

"I was a little nervous about it," Earnhardt said. "But after a couple of laps I realized I had way more motor than they did. They weren't chasing after me like I was a murderer. They didn't have the hammer down, but they weren't going to catch me."

snip~~

"Five of us have a chance, and I'm the guy at the bottom of that list," he said. "It's not like I have to gain 100 points on one guy. I have to gain on all them guys. But numerically we're still in it, and we're going to keep digging."

Earnhardt has studied the matter in detail. He made a calculated assessment of what it will take to get the No. 8 Budweiser Chevy into the Chase.

"If I can get a top 5 at LA and a win at Richmond, that should get me in," he said. "I don't think two top 5s is good enough because at least one of those guys ahead of me is going to get a top 5." ...

NASCAR jumps into meat business

Well whaddya know, NASCAR's jumping into the baloney business.

Funny, I thought they'd been one of the leading producers for years.

Actually, it was breathlessly announced on Tuesday that NASCAR has stepped into the meat-product market, touting a line of officially branded NASCAR hot dogs and bologna, NASCAR smoked sausage, NASCAR lunch meats and NASCAR bacon.

It's doubtful NASCAR honcho Brian France actually rolled up his sleeves in the kitchen and manned the meat-grinder. But he and the rest of NASCAR's brain trust surely have savored "the hottest new meat products to hit grocery shelves around the country this year."

NASCAR, Red Cross join for hurricane relief effort

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Thursday it has aligned its industry with the American Red Cross to support in every way possible charitable efforts in the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

"One of the special qualities of the NASCAR industry is helping others in times of need," NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said. "NASCAR is working to rally our drivers, teams, tracks, partners, and most importantly, our fans to this common cause.

"This tragedy has impacted millions of Americans, many of whom are NASCAR fans themselves, and we have reached out to the American Red Cross to do everything we can to provide relief.

"Like all Americans," France said, "our hearts ache as we realize the devastating impact this storm has had. We know NASCAR fans are eager to help.

"Our alliance with the American Red Cross gives those fans, and our entire industry, an opportunity to band together in this common cause."

NASCAR, with the cooperation of its partner, Turner Sports Interactive -- producers of NASCAR.COM -- has established a designated Web page to coordinate NASCAR fan support of the relief efforts.

Additional information and details will be forthcoming.
