Dan LeBlanc is livid after a neighbour says he witnessed a Canada Post carrier enter his yard and vigorously shake his dog Thursday morning. I wouldnt treat her like that and I sure as hell dont want Canada Post treating her like that, said the 39-year-old from Spryfield.
LeBlanc keeps his dog Silver tied up next to a doghouse in a fenced yard. His mailbox is attached to the outside of the fence.
Ive taken precautions to make sure the dog stays in the yard, said the Bridget Avenue man. Ive done my part. For this guy to do this ... is unspeakable.
LeBlancs neighbour Glenn Oakley said he witnessed the mail carrier unlock the gate, enter LeBlancs yard, pick up Silver and jerk her in the air.
When the dog ran and hid under the mobile-home steps, the carrier pulled her with enough force to pop off her collar, said Oakley.
He shook the dog all around and the collar came off, said the neighbour. I couldnt believe it.
Like other dogs, LeBlanc said his husky-Shepherd mix is friendly and only barks at strangers. Shes like one of my kids, said the father of four. For the longest time, she wouldnt come out of her dog house. You could hear her shaking against the side of the dog house.
Notorious
Canada Post spokeswoman Avril Vollenhoven said she cant comment directly on the alleged incident because its under investigation.
Dogs are notorious for going after letter carriers, said Vollenhoven. Because letter carriers invade their territory, so to speak.
She said carriers experience more dog attacks in summer than other times of year. With the children home, school out and with the great weather, dogs are outside and feeling more protective of the families.
That is one beautiful puppy.
Not to scratch my head too much but that's a big, not heavy, dog.
The neighbor saw the carrier jerk up the dog and throw it up in the air? Something weird in the story. I could see a carrier coming into the yard and kicking, hitting or dragging the dog. Somebody looking to do something mean to a dog would not get the dogs teeth anywhere near their neck.
As an addition. Both of my dogs are about that size and they are some wiggly critters to try and snag hold of and pick up.
Very cute dog.
Smuckers!
What a beautiful little dog. If anyone did something like that to one of my "babies", I'd do the same back to them...but worse. There is no excuse for that kind of treatment.
