Ohio Voter
today | Me

Posted on 08/04/2005 4:49:43 AM PDT by Michael121

First let me say that in Ohio the Conservatives I talked to DID NOT VOTE for Jean Schmidt because she is a MODERATE. And we already have a mostly Conservative HOUSE. And a majority. So the R's who would have voted said she is not getting my vote. I am not holding my nose for another Dem in a Republican Suit. That is why it was so close.

What follows is from the DU. Too bad they just keep on lying to themselves and each other. They lose and say it was a win. They talk about an Ohio election and yet bring people in from other states? Why not enough libs in Ohio. YEP they will find that in in '06.

Hopefully the Rep's will put up a true Conservative instead of Jean. If not we will vote for her then.

The Dems cannot win and there is another point I talked to a real Dem never votes Republican. He said he did not vote for Hackett because his TV spot made it look like he supported G.W. So the hate bites them back.

Besides on ALL of Hacketts signs there was not any reference to the Democrats. Just said Paul Hackett for Congress. Jean's had the Republican on her signs.

Dems lie to themselves, hide the fact theat they are Dems and lose yet claim victory.

They just keep jumping off the edge of the cliff following the other sheeple all the while thinking they will not hit the ground. Oppps. SPLAT.

They still say We conservatives Stole their country.

I say "All your seat belong to us"

From the DU:

( What an amazing experience.

I made the trip from Pittsburgh to SW Ohio on Sunday and returned home today. Every second of working on the Hackett campaign was worthwhile.

The turnout of volunteers was incredible. I met people from Seattle, Boston, Chicago, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia. This corps of campaign workers flew, drove, did whatever they had to do to travel to OH-02, all on their own dime. What they accomplished, along with Hackett's very inspired own staff was remarkable. This was the greatest Democratic get-out-the vote effort ever in that district!

Paul Hackett is the real deal, folks. He's intelligent, independent-minded, witty, and courageous. He's a born leader and has personality to boot. He speaks the plain truth, not false rhetoric. He called George Bush a "chickenhawk" and didn't back down. That kind of tenacity bodes well for his bright future.

Young and old, male and female, black and white--they were all there, working together for a common cause, working for someone who they felt would represent them. This campaign seemed to be a catalyst for the middle Americans who are saying, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore." It showed in the numbers of votes Paul received in a district where registered Repulicans outnumber Democrats by a more than 3 to 1 margin.

Vietnam Veterans were calling the campaign headquarters to find out where their polling places were. Two elderly ladies in very fragile health offered to stand at the polls and hand out literature in 97 degree heat (They were thanked profusely and gently turned down.)

A gentleman called on election eve from Virginia. He said to me, "I just donated $500 to the campaign. I'm a Vietnam Vet, and I'M ALSO A REPUBLICAN." Is there anything else I can do to help? I'm sick of this administration smearing and sliming veterans. I'm disgusted that George Bush lied us into a war with Iraq." It was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

The number of young people working on the Hackett campaign was pleasantly surprising. They were talented, smart, and inspired. They were composed and excited, patient and driven, all at the same time. I felt that I was surrounded by America's best and brighest. They gave me hope for our future.

Many area Ohioans opened their homes for the volunteers to stay in. I was privileged to stay with a wonderful woman in Hamilton County. She worked diligently on the campaign even though she didn't live in district 02. You see, this brave lady emigrated to the USA in 1970 from Czechoslovakia. She lived under Communism's oppression. She knows what it's like to have a one-party system; to live without the freedoms that are slowly being taken away from us here. My new friend is an activist, fighting for America's future, most notably on election reform. SHE is a true patriot.

There were posts on this site last night that said things like, "I can't celebrate the fact that we're still losers," and "Win or Go Home." I have advice for you gloom and doomers: PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

Get off your naysaying asses and get to work. We all have to sweat and toil and fight tooth and nail for every step we take in changing the direction of this country. Putting your time and energy into postive and important causes will make you feel ALIVE, and you won't have time to criticize other people's accomplishments.

So, to the Ohioans who should be proud of themselves and to Paul Hackett --

IT WAS AN HONOR. )

DU has become more of a joke since the election in 04

Now they are having a fundraiser to raise money for Byrd, and they have raised a little bit more than 0.00 dollars!

The Libs remind me of the person who lost all his money at the craps table then hocks his wedding ring so he can try to get even.

Sounds like Hackett would have been the perfect representative for the republican who chose not to vote.

I don't think she is a "moderate", as in press grandstanding McCain moderate. She's more of a loyal vote to the leadership and the Ohio Taft leadership is moderate, but that will be gone in 06 when Ken Blackwell assumes the leadership.

That said there was no reason for the "true conservatives" to act on cue and start this "moderate" garbage. Luckily enough conservative voters in the 2nd district came out to deafat a stealth conservative acting but very liberal trial lawyer democrat thus denying them a liberal press orgy.

What a bunch of hogwash and delusional rantings. This Hatchet guy hid and hoped for the best (Hope the left didn't notice that this tactic didn't work). While reading this I was waiting to see if Joan Baez had called to see if she could come and sing "Joe Hill".

Have they thought of selling autographed sheets?

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, not declairing your a liberal, much less a democrat, and airing ads that give the impression that you're best buddies with Bush--that's the "plain truth" all right, LOL. Way to not "back down", Hackett!

the Conservatives I talked to DID NOT VOTE for Jean Schmidt because she is a MODERATE.

I saw folks spouting this line of bull on the TV claiming that "real conservatives" should sit this one out to send a message.

I have to say, what perfect fools if this wasn't a Dem operation. All of this noise from the "Club for Growth" will come to grief, if they want to spend our time and treasure in trying to find someone truer than Jean Schmidt and run them against her. This will just give the district to the Democrats.

One has to remember that Taft had proposed hundreds of incremental increases in scope for the Ohio Sales tax that would never ever be able to be repealed. This was his great sin. The Ohio legislature was coping with a horrible deficit that is just now abating, and arguing we shouldn't increase taxes is something you have to do by changing the Ohio Constitution rather than beating our representatives who have to play inside the rules. So, instead of Taft's tax increases they passed a blanket increase in the sales tax that could be easily and cleanly removed. And, Blackwell has sworn to do just this, and I believe he will get it done.

So this all worked very well for the folks of Ohio, and Jean was on the right side of the angels, despite the tinfoil hat brigades. If the Club for Growth wants absolutely no tax increases ever, then need to look at our Ohio Constitution and make changes there. Right now, every time we have a recession, we have to raise taxes. And, each time the economy turns up, we have to repeal those taxes. Its lame, but thats the outcome of balanced budget amendments.

Repealing the balanced budget provision, would just give them license to borrow and spend. So it gets down to finding a new better solution. But thats, another show and another battle.

In 2006, our efforts need to be going to nominating a great replacement for Mike DeWine and getting DeWine to step down without a primary election battle. We need to get square behind Blackwell and get him in the State House, which will be a battle, not easy. And if Strickland really is running for Governor, then we need to spend all time and effort necessary in converting that seat to the "R" column.

Right, wrong or indifferent, the battle has moved on and Jean is in our win column, and should be kept there.

I met people from Seattle, Boston, Chicago, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.

This is an incredible admission. It means that the DNC planned a completely under the radar election surprise campaign in Ohio for some bizarre national PR Campaign.

Also note that they term this "voter turnout."

This is beginning to look like a set up from the get go.

It is also a pretty silly strategy. One should note that it is a tacit admission that that cannot win on the merits but only through some sort of deception. All and all it is pretty loony.

Some comments are so cryptic that they just cannot be understood. As I live in the district, I might be in a position to know something about it. huh...

But, I just don't understand your point about DUmmies. sorry.

it was directed to the Michael poster that you had responded too...

first he says how he didn't vote because he views here as a moderate, then he laughs at the people at DU over their histrionics about vote fraud.

I was not gloating about the DUmmies.

And I did not vote for Jean. The ones I talked to were not worried about '05 Special Election but '06 and maybe Blackwell running for Gov.

We need to rid ourselves of the RINO's like Jean. If she wants to be like a Dem she can switch to teir side.

There is principle and their is Party and Party has too many wimps. WE WON and they act like We lost.

It is time to ACT LIKE WINNERS AND PUT UP CONSERVATIVES NOT MODERATES.

This is an incredible admission. It means that the DNC planned a completely under the radar election surprise campaign in Ohio for some bizarre national PR Campaign.

I was really surprised. If you look at the numbers, 50% of all of the Democrats in the District voted vs. 20 or 25% of the Republicans. This was a GOTV failure on our part.

I have to admit, it was hard as heck for me to get to my voting place, it was really tempting to believe everything was going to be fine.. but I was really suspicious that the Dems were up to no good and left work mid-day and drove 60 miles home grabbed the wife and daughter and added a few more votes for the good guys.

Still, each day that passes.. I am more shocked that there was a movement afoot in this district for the conservatives to sit on their hands and lose the district. I thought this was a cynical Democrat trick and still am suspicious, but posts like this make me believe this was really red bleeding conservatives fitting themselves for tin foil hats..

This hurt everything, it scared the staunch conservatives in Congress and made them worry and move perhaps in even more RINO like positions. Nut cases in the conservative camp can be just as damaging as the MoveOn folks have been for the Democrats. And if this represents the planning and thought of the Club for Growth people for real. They need to take a break and think about how much they will like Hillary and Michael Moore rather than the folks we have. Gees....

This election also shows them that plain lying about who they are might work. The first round of this was in Colorado with Ken Salazar who fooled them by claiming to be a different sort of Democrat, and Hackett completely confused everyone, and the Dems are going to go full bore with this strategy. Though, Jean Schmitt's no negatives campaign position opened the door for this sort of hijinks.

The guy apparently represents a viewpoint around here. I think, but I am not sure, that these are McEwen supporters who are still moping about how the primary went.

Jean is not a very effective campaigner, but the choices in the primary were enough to make you cry. I had really hoped that Doug White, president of the Ohio Senate would jump into this.. but I think perhaps he lives just outside of the district to the north and decided to not get in the way of this spitting match.

Hackett, for being a MoveOn.org poster child, was a compelling candidate and we will see him again and again. He is like the first Democrat with even a hint of charisma I have seen around here for years.

Still, before folks get all breathless about the Dems putting Veterans up for election. I would contend that for every leadership quality Dem Vet out there, we have 10 leadership quality Rep Veterans so let them bring them on.
