And I've agreed with that twice. I AM a male teacher and KNOW it would be different. Try being a male teacher and giving hugs. You DON'T do it. With a female teacher, it's "awwwwwwww, that's so neat."
As am I. And yes, it would be different if it was two male teachers and a female student.
Yeah, but having more than one at a time mitigates that. As George Carlin once said: "I never f**cked a 10, but one night I had five 2s!"
The double standard is this:
Male teachers must establish rapport with students to maintain class discipline (otherwise, it is mayhem and the principal invariably blames the most convenient target, ie, the male teacher).
Female teachers are permitted to use "terms of endearment," without limitation ("dearie," "sweetie," "sugar," ad nauseum), along with hugs, kisses, and whatever else in the form of physical affection they might care to show in public. It's OK because the teacher is not male.
If a male teacher tries to show affection either verbally or physically to students of either sex (or trans-sex), watch out! Verbal permits charges of "sexual harassment." Physical permits that, plus worse. Male teachers could be charged with assault and battery for simply touching a student. They can be let go and blacklisted by districts simply by students registering accusations which are in some way potentially verifiable (as in he touched me). The vast statistical majority of complaints at the district level involve male teachers, justified or otherwise. So the vast majority of blacklisted teachers are male, justified or otherwise. (My source for this is a male teacher who this happened to). There is no recourse, but to apply to other districts.
In this toxic anti-male-teacher environment, female soc-called "nympho" teachers apparently survive and thrive.
(Standard disclaimer: might be missing something. ;-)
I do wish that there were more male teachers out there. I have had several parents tell me that as well. There are many good female teachers out there though. Any differences I have with any usually have to do with personalities rather than gender or politics. Though, working with 4 fickle females next year on my team is going to be hard.:)
It is nice at times to talk to a dad or other male adult. The great majority of the time I deal with 6-year-olds and moms. I love talking to kids and moms, but it is nice to get a chance to talk to men sometimes.:)
Thanks. You are right in a sense, but are girls not? I agree that at 16 kids are often active, but to condone statutory rape because it's cool if the parties are arranged a specific way seems wrong to me. You are not suggesting that because he's a boy...it's ok for adults to do this are you?
A funny public school situation my wife and I witnessed was when we attended an elementary school graduation ceremony for our friends' child (we homeschool and have virtually never been in a public school while raising our own kids). The principal, acting as an MC, was terribly inarticulate and would have fit in well with any group of unskilled laborers. The hilarious part was the presence of Miss Woods, a fifth grade teacher only a couple of years out of elementary ed college. She was drop dead gorgeous and commanded every dad's and male teachers' attention; when she spoke, everyone listened! It was so funny to see perfunctory attention paid to the old school marms while rapt attention and applause was given to Miss Woods. They seemed so painfully aware that she had the looks and the attention it commands.
It was funny also to see the fifth grade boys so clueless as she put her hands on their shoulders while talking about their individual acheivements.
The only male teacher was about 40 years old with an attitude of embarassment that he had to be a part of the ceremony. All I could think about this guy as he spoke was "so you couldn't get a real job".
As old as I am now with one left at home finishing high school I can only shake my head in disbelief that the school we visited had to be typical.
Whether you force a minor into sex, or lure a minor into sex, or if the minor should consent, it is still a form of rape, whether statutory or otherwise.
You can't have laws based on morals, (such as when minors 'consent' to have sex with adults), that affect only one gender. That's the most absurd and divisive disposition I can think of.
I have to thank God I was raised before the time when reason, logic and morality were trumped by feminism and the delusive perception that female crimes are somehow "cute".
You might want to tell God that. He got Leviticus 18 all wrong, by your rules.
>>>Anyway, I am with the "why did this never happen to me?" group.
You forgot the "I never had any teachers that I'd even think about doing anything like this with" group, which I am a charter member...
