If he indeed bolted because of the cancer then it is best for her. I speak from experience when I say she needs someone who will stand beside her regardless. That being said, I won't denigrate the man unless I know for sure this is why the marriage was called off/postponed.

Too bad, she sounded like she was really looking forward to marriage with this guy. We need more details. It sounded to me as if SHE called it off. Said that what she had to go through was more important than getting married.
