Here's the Monty Python skit, under 'Argument':
Monty Python's The Final Rip-Off
That just drives me bananas!
ACK!
Monty Python ...shoulda known!
My experience was with my father. The last several months of his life he was in and out of reality, bed ridden and literally dirtying himself in bed. It crushed me. I thanked God when he finally allowed my father to come home, as he was a man of deep faith and practice. His death was a blessing although it was hard to see him go.
Point ot my ramblings is sometimes you step on toes when you have no intention to. Sometimes people put their toes out to be stepped on.
I've wondered that myself. Common sense would say the more people you have, the more chances for disagreement there will be, but I've had occasions where a discussion is going along just fine until suddenly, the personal attacks start.
I don't call people names, I might say they're misinformed, but I never call them a LIAR.
That is not how adults conduct reasonable, civil discourse.
If I find myself in a discussion where I can no longer be civil, I just don't respond or wait a bit before I go back to it.
It's really not that hard to do.
I use it occasionally (maybe once a month or less), either for way out of line personal attacks (on other posters -- I've never felt the need to do it for myself, since I rarely draw such attacks), and for inappropriate posts that give ammo to FR's enemies. Some of those inappropriate posts are made in jest, but are still problematic, especially if quoted out of context. One I recall was a response to a vanity post about some really troublesome next door neighbors, who happened to be black, and a lack of help from the police department. A poster suggested that the guy contact the local KKK chapter, who'd be happy to handle the problem. Obviously he wasn't serious, but it looked awful, and FR was definitely better off without it.
I think the mods appreciate the help in keeping FR relatively clear of seriously inappropriate posts. The mods can't read every thread, and yet the management clearly wants racist posts, harsh personal attacks (like the one I reported a few days ago, in which one poster called another a "convicted child molester", though there was no evidence whatsoever to suggest it was true), posts calling for violence against political figures, etc. removed. It's just being a good FR citizen to poke the abuse button on these posts.
There is "self-abuse" button for that purpose. I use it a lot.
Hmm, there were already about 7 or 8 self-abuse jokes. Guess I'll hit the abuse button again on myself again.
Try this and you'll see the difference. I had no idea a screen could be cleaned from the inside too!
Amazing! Every keystroke you make, each graphic you pull up to view, makes your monitor screen "cloudy" because of the pixels and the light particles moving to make your images on your screen.
This is a quick screen cleaner which aids in making your monitor more clear and more vibrant. Click on this link to activate on your monitor, remember this only takes a moment.

Well, dang where the heck is it, there are days I could use it. :~)
LOL! There are SO many off-color jokes I could make about that!
I think we can read about one off color joke a day on FR anyways..LOL....
Not too often. The last time I used it was over a year ago. The moderators were asleep or something. Some fairy was posting pictures of gay porn. Really.
I regard abuse as a sort of fire alarm button to be used in emergencies only. In the case of trollus commonus I just ping the mod along with the troll.
Does that make you a tattle tale or pest?
:)
I use the abuse button once in a while, usually to call attention to posts that make FR look bad. I've also been know to hit the abuse button on myself when I realize that I've said something really dumb. :)
