Why do adults who broadcast sporting events behave and speak like immature teenagers? Hardly a game can go by without ritualistic laughter following a comment that is clearly between and among the announcers. The laugh-provoking comments do not seem to be directed toward the TV viewers.
What ever happened to professionalism? The viewers seem to exist only to be teased and prompted for the next commercial announcement.
These are mostly former athletes, with little education, who got hired because of name recognition, and are about as articulate as Michael Dukakis.
Because that's how their target audience behaves?
The crumudgeon in me agrees. And Sportscenter is the stupidest of em all.
Watching American Chopper, for example, Sports Center and so forth are good examples. There always are bald, husky (used to be called "fat") guys with a goatee and an ear ring. Does that give them "validity"? And then there is the athletic build female they all drool over (the hoarse sounding one on Over Haulin', for example) who does bugger all in the show but walks around in low rise jeans and a tight tee shirt.
The formula has become stale, honestly.
The word "Formula" is the word that keeps evading me when I see and hear that stuff. The sports guys are no different than the weathercasters in any local news broadcast. Weatherpeople have their own broadcast formula. It seems that 90% of TV/Radio media is driven by "Formula".
How does the "Formula" get changed?
