I've had several conversations with posters about good beers and I tried a new one (for me) last night ... and it was fantastic.
I picked up a 6-pack of a beer named Stella Artois which is a premium lager. It is brewed in Leuven, Belgium and claims to date back to the year 1366. The beer was incredibly smooth and delicious. While their politics may be messed up, those Europeans sure know what they are doing when it comes to beer.
If you find it, ping me, huh? I've never seen it outside of southern Spain. Its great, right down to the label on the bottles (which is a really fat guy in a red costume, hoisting one in salute).
If a 12-pack costs $38 and a case $89, I'd go with the 12 packs. But I'm happy with Yuengling at $14 a case.
So much beer to sample, so little time!
Heck yes, TO!
I can get by just fine w/Yg, Rolling Rock, Killian's Red, Guinness and 257 other, distant microbrews... ::::(((SMILE)))::: ...
I favor Negra Modelo.
I have had Pilsner Urquell and it is excellent. I also seem to recall having this on draft in the Philippines. It was of course hot, hot, hot in the Philippines and I was at Greenbelt Mall in Makati on several ocassions. There was a small restaurant & bar I would stop in in the afternoon to enjoy a nice cold one and this was on tap and it was incredible how it hit the spot! It also helped that the place had a/c and four quite beautiful women working there ... and ESPN!
Haven't seen this one, but I'll keep an eye out for it.
We've had Stella Artois on several trips to Europe, especially in France. It seems to be available at just about every bar. My impression is that it's not a local brew at all - more of a big "Bud-type" brewery, like Kronenbourg (sp?). Good stuff, nevertheless!
I think that many companies believe it is an advantage to selling themselves as a small operation. But if you brew in Belgium and your product is sold in the state of Washington, you can't be too small. But, yes, it is excellent.
On my only trip (thus far) to Belgium many years ago, I stopped in a grocery store and picked up a six-pack of Belgian beer - can't remember the brewery - to take home with me. Whatever it was, it was very good! I can't remember ever having a Belgian or German beer I didn't like, except maybe Weissbier.
..
I had a nice ale last night at a local Publick House called Smithwick's (pronounced Smittick's). It's brewed in Cork, Ireland and is a quite dark and not too bitter brew. Very nice. It went nicely with some good live Bluegrass by a great local band.
I remember a Mexican beer called Simpatico---can't find it anywhere around here now. Negra Modelo is yummy, too.
Morning, eh! Bad boy, bad boy. :)
..
Haven't had that particular brew, but I like Corona and several other Latin American beers. Based on their commercial, I tried Corona with lime one evening. Even with a little lime and salt. Was quite good.
You mean, "Bad GIRL". That makes it even badder, no? ( :
Ohhh yeah, baby! Much badder ... :p
