I have heard much discussion as of late regarding Defense and Education spending as percentages of the Federal budget. Many on the Right have argued that defense spending is a fraction of the Federal expenditures on Education. But, as I look at the issue, just in terms of raw numbers, this argument does not make enough sense to me to even attempt its use.
Could someone help me understand just this argument as it breaks down?... or point me to a thread or article that engages this discussion? On the surface, it seems to me to be a bogus argument for Conservatives to make.
Defense is a constitutionally-mandated function of the federal government. Education is not. The federal government should not be spending a dime on education. End of discussion.
You'll get NO argument from me on that one. I totally agree. But, I was hoping to understand the budget comparison as it is made by spokesman on the Right. Recently I have heard both Medved and Rush make the point, but not explain the case.
The National Review article in Post #3 looks useful!
