Help My Grade

Posted on 11/30/2004 1:54:58 PM PST by polyester~monkey

Sorry everyone but I though here might be the best place to ask: I'm in HS, and am asking for some help on these assignments. I'm doing a persuasive speech on Affirmative Action for a very liberal teacher, and I thought perhaps you could enlighten me on some good tallking points. Also I am writing a cause-effect paper on the causes of 9/11. I'm going to write about what a peacenik Clinton was, but what else could I say? Thanks a lot, Matt

By the way an interesting pre-election phenomenon I experienced at school was that of the people wearing Kerry buttons or stickers, about 85% were either goths or gangbangers. Do people who where all black and listen to Satanic music really think that helps the image of their candidate? And also, of our Repub group, almost all had a 4.0 GPA

I admire your convictions. Be careful, liberal teachers hate it when you trash their HERO Clinton!! Be prepared in case the teacher scores you down because of it. But if you paper is well written and researched, you will be able to challenge the grade and score a big win!

Something I would certainly try to work in is the question: when do you declare victory in affirmative action?

There's a black female who is being confirmed as Secretary of State, a Hispanic for Attorney General, an Asian as a cabinet member -- when does it become 'an even playing field' in the minds of supporters of affirmative action? What point is there to a movement with no stated goals, or when those goals are met, why doesn't it end?

Affirmative Action is good because it helps keep Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson employed.

And just what would we do without them?

Affirmative Action: How about the lack of affirmative action in professional basketball? Why the lack of white Americans? Why are blacks disproportionately represented in this particular sport? Why has Jessie Jackson called for a boycott of Nascar, but not the NBA? What about short people? Why isn't there an equal representation of the vertically challenged in the NBA? Programs should be set up to give a, "leg up" to those who are on the short side of life. Affirmative Action: There should be government grants and set asides which train less talented white kids how to play the game on an NBA level. Let's face it, these white kids are not privileged enough to have grown up in an environment that is conducive to learning the game. They are discriminated against from birth because they are physically different. White kids can't jump as high because of the easy upbringing of their ancestors. I demand reparations!!!

You could take the whole satiristic approach and tell of all the good that has happened since affirmative action- like the majority of blacks being in jail, and the majority failing out of college that they got into by affirmative action.

For affirmative action, it is important to distinguish between individual justice and group justice. If one person is favored over another by reason of skin color, than the individual who lost out has been cheated. It does not affect the justice for the cheated person if his or her ancestors were victims or beneficiaries or past prejudice. Justice cannot be done if individuals are sacrificed because of an injustice they had no part of.

You have most of your work done for you if you "Google" the number of terrorists attacks that occurred during the Clinton administration and what was done to counter those attacks and prevent future attacks.

Good luck!

I recommend you present your liberal teacher with the commentary of black scholars, such as Thomas Sowell and
others, who have written numerous articles - and books -
dealing with the inequities and absurdities of affirmative
action -- and why it fosters incompetence and does NOT help
the minorities it purports to help. Good luck. stopew
