An experimental wonder drug, Rimonabant, helps you lose weight, quit smoking and it also helps protect your heart. Trials have shown that 33% of people on Rimonabant lost 10% of body weight and kept their weight down for two years - this is a record, no other diet drug has managed to keep a person's weight down for so long.
The second 33% lost 5% of body weight and kept it down.
As well as keeping you lean, the drug also helps you quit the smoking habit. This will be of great interest for many smokers who are afraid to give up because they say they will put on loads of weight if they do (young female smokers worry about this the most).
The findings of this trial were presented at the American Heart Association conference, New Orleans, USA.
Study leader, Dr. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, said "People were able to quit and stay off cigarettes significantly better on rimonabant and also not gain all that weight that generally happens when you quit smoking."
Dr. Xavier Pi-Sunyer works at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, New York.
There are nerve receptors that exist in the brain and fat cells. These receptors tell the body to overeat (and intake nicotine). Rimonabant blocks the signals these receptors give out - it stops them from telling us to overeat. Overeaters and addicted smokers have very active receptors of this kind.

The company that is developing this drug is Sanofi Sythelab, a large French pharmaceutical firm. The stock symbol is SNY. Could be a real mover if this thing pans out.
I'd trust anything French. /sarcasm
There is a proven weight loss system: eat healthy and exercise. Does wonders.
bttt for later read.
True, it really does. I've been doing about 15 minutes worth of exercises everyday with very light weights for a while now. I've lost 2 kilograms(about 4 pounds) in a month, and also feel a lot healthier. Besides, exercise is the best method of preventing sleep when doing activity that demands concentration.
Hope it inspires others to do the same and more. Your body deserves it! All the best!
And one more thing. Before anyone jumps the board to go for short-cut methods to lose weight, a word of caution. A lot of these drugs are known to cause side effects in the long term, some of which include loss of libido, trembling hands and feet, etc. Most of such symptoms are discovered very late- about 15 to 20 years after the introduction of a drug. Take the example of birth control pills.
It also removes unsightly hair, cures bad breath, eases the pain of child birth and should be taken with beer.
...just joking folks. Atkins and excercise works.
I put my money on AOD9604.
Quite literally. So far I've made into six figures.
Atkins + Fiber + excersize works
I was amazed..........until I got a spastic colon from the lack of fiber
But does it also clean the house and do small repairs? If not, then no thanks.
I don't know what the side affects are, but probably include dry mouth and flatulence. So, you're feeling good, but are afraid to go out in public because you stink from both ends!
Get up off your butts and exercise, people. Stop stuffing yourself with giant muffins in the morning.
Damn. Just like old age.
bump for later
very true...hope it has all worked out in the end....;-)
With old age comes addiction to the doctor induced pill factor. This one seems kind of an easy diagnosis. Lose weight with this pill---Take Viagra for the libido problem and pray your blood pressure stays stable.....
Atkins is a joke. Don't bash a new med that might help people when you're on a fringe diet craze yourself.
So, so very easy to say.
...huh?...2 things for you:
1. Get a sense of humor and enjoy it.
2. Do some research on the principles of the ATKINS Nutritional System.
Have a nice day!
Drugs are unnecessary (other than vitamins). They can't substitute for self-discipline, which is indispensable.
