Horrific case of animal abuse

September 18, 2004 — It's a horrific case of animal abuse. One dog is found alive but severely malnourished in a west side apartment building. Several other dogs were found dead in the basement and in a garbage can.

A 31-year-old woman is now facing misdemeanor charges of cruel treatment to animals. However, there are signs that teenagers were using the dogs to fight one another.

Just walking past the house at 3627 West Lexington, you can smell the stench. Animals not cared for. At lease one dead -- tossed in a garbage can out back.

"It's literally skin and bones," said an officer.

To sick to stand for any period of time, a wounded pit bull shows the tell-tale signs of being involved in illegal dog fighting.

"In the basement of the residence, there's a section where there's a dog fighting ring where it's blocked off over there and it appears they were fighting dogs and all along the walls, dried blood and recent fights," said Sgt. Steve Brownstein, Chicago Police Department.

In addition to this year-old pit bull pup, police also found bones and a skull from another dog, and the body of a third canine in the trash.

"A horrible smell, it's constant. You always see dogs out here. One looks like he needs to be fed," said Linnea Mobley, neighbor.

Police were called to the scene by the woman they ended up arresting. Neighbors say she is the mother of several teenagers... they believe the kids were the ones actually arranging the dog fights downstairs.

"It was hard on her to handle all 4 or 5 kids. She's a hard working woman it just hard for her to keep up with four real bad kids," said Wayne Brooks, neighbor.

Officials said the surviving dog is in such bad shape he may need to be put down.

Lisa Ann Brown is now charged with cruel treatment to animals. That's a misdemeanor. DCFS is also opening an investigation into whether these kids were living in safe conditions.

And the daily killing of unborn babies through abortion isn't horrific and horrendous?

Priorities, priorities!

Actually you brought up a great point. Killing innocent animals and killing babies go hand in hand.

Those who abuse animals are far more likely to abuse/kill humans.

I saw some bozo on TV defending this woman, saying she was having a hard time raising her four kids. She was charged with a misdemeanor. Only in Chicago.

Sounds like she shouldn't have these kids' if she can't handle them or take care of them. For what went on there, she should see prison time. I agree with you though...not here in Illinois though...not just Chicago.

Come bother us again when you have interrupted every thread on the forum that relates to the elections, detail differences between Christian churches, Dan Rather, all the trials of the week and every other thread that isn't specifically about ending abortion.

It absolutely is. But remember, young people who delight in causing animals pain often go on to torture their fellow man.

This thread is for dogs, there's one for cats and the abortion issue is covered in the religion section.
