It is appearing to come out that Rather is going to steadfastly stand by the forged documents. This is an odd position to take.
However, taking in to account the way the media typically operates, it makes sense.
It is already apparent that Rather is going to obsess over the superscript th in the documents by stating an early 70s era typewriter that can accomplish this. (I doubt he will type on it, it would be damn near impossible to find one that does proportional + superscript, while they exist, are extremely rare in that era.) This has not been in disupte. Its the combination of issues. But the media always stomps on the most egregious of issues and fixates on the simple things.
So. State the issue on Friday night. The weekend news cycle kicks in. Then coverage of Ivan the Terrible. Presto, Berger-gate style coverup.
(Yeah its a fear. I hate the media with passion)
I suspect that you're gonna be right about this.
This is exactly how the media works.
This will be a non-issue (in one week) except among Freepers, bloggers and Talk Radio.
The MSM will see to it by ignoring the issue.
Just my opinion, but this is part of the subterfuge order that went out from the "heart surgery ward" last week. Anything to keep the focus off Kerry. Look at the junk yard dogs that Billy sent to take control of Kerry...the professional lie and slime team. This whole issue of the forged memos is going to bite them big...they have sunken to the lowest levels of gutter politics.
it's called misdirection. He's attempting to laser focus on one issue while ignoring the massive wave of inconsistencies in his reporting. Hopefully his sly arrogance shall backfire.
I know he's intending to misdirect, but my worry is there won't be time for backfire. The media will enter weekend cycle and then the obsession over Ivan will begin. No air-time.
Don't forget that come Monday, they'll be serving us a steady diet of deep-fried Kitty Kelley.
No. This is part of Kerry's new strategy of "hitting back hard."
He says if Republicans are going to unearth footage of him in the early '70s coaching "vets" on what to accuse the military of, then he's going to "unearth" some documents that call Bush's service into question, even if he has to type it up in Microsoft Word himself.
