Netscape 7.1 Mail Problem

I guess this is a dreaded vanity. I just recently downloaded Netscape 7.1 as my browser and am having a problem with Mail.

I cannot save a copy of a sent message into my 'sent' folder. I go to the menu selection: Edit -> Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings -> Copies and Folders and in the box When sending messages, automatically: select the check box Place a copy in:, but whatever I select, it salways defaults to the other selection. Even when I deselect the Place a copy in: and select OK it always defaults back.

I can, when composing a message, go to the menu selection: Options -> Send a Copy To -> Local Folders -> Sent, and after sending, it will show up in the 'sent' folder.

It's a major pain to have to select this with each message sent.

Is there a way around this ?

It's a known bug and it still isn't fixed. The new version of Netscape coming out this summer might even ship with the bug. Let's hope it does not.

As a workaround, try this. First, copy all of your existing mail in your sent folder to a new folder. Give the new folder a unique name. Having done that, delete the old sent folder. Now, go to the new folder. Rename it to "sent" or whatever. Now go back into Preferences and try to jiggle it so it works again.

I'm not even sure that will work. Good luck.

I'm running Mozilla, which is so like Netscape, you'll feel right at home with it, and I don't seem to have the problem. Consider Mozilla.

Thanks for the help everyone. I was unable to figure this one out. Just yesterday I switched over to a cable modem, and created a new account in Netscape mail...this account works correctly...sent mail is filed in the sent folder...go figure.

Strange, maybe it had something to do with the way I set up the mail account for my dial-up.

A friend suggested deleting the prefs file and regenerating the account...I may try this...but it doesn't matter I guess.

thanks again,

Jim
