They just announced on the radio that there will be no more Miss Sweden contests as its demeaning to women and sets a bad example to little girls.
According to the current organisers TV3 the competition will take a indefinite "time out" due to the claims that the competition furthers sterotyping of women and sets a superficious and false example for girls growing up.
Opponents to the competition say´s the ideals the competition is judged by is obsolete, and that the competition should have been cancelled many decades ago.
Guess they will have to cope without Swedes at Ms. Universe competitions from now on.
What´s Freepers opinion on the subject?

I think its good for American contestants. I visited Stockholm briefly back in the '80s and I remember being quite disgusted at just how beautiful Swedes are. Gives us dogs hope.
Yes, my flame suit is on.

Not all are beautiful - take my word for it... That's right. I've seen plenty of Swedish women in church basements who look like my grandmother.
Well, in fact, my grandmother, for one.

I went to Sweden in 2000 to visit friends, and in 16 days I only saw 2 overweight women, and about 5 women who were not very good looking.
I found most women there to be very beautiful and very smart, however very socialist which is a huge turn-off for a libertarian like me.
A beautiful socialist woman is like freakin' kryptonite to a libertarian guy!!!

Found it interesting that the most wanted products were ugly "Swedish Ornaments". I get the lingonberry jam, I was gagging for it when I lived abroad (is now available at any IKEA store all over the world, as are Mamma Scans köttbullar and saltlakrits).

I always thought that "Swedish Bikini Team," though liberating, was a misnomer.

Uh...shouldn't Swedish women decide if they are demeaned by such contests? If there are entrants, then obviously, they feel its not demeaning to them.
Must be what the "opponents" are p-oed about. Their "suggestion" wasn't heeded, so now they just demand it be stopped and those with the decision to make it happen, do so. Zeig Hiel!
