This was previously shown on another channel--I think it was Animal Planet.

You mean the Eukanuba National Dog Show Championship that was on run on Animal Planet recently? I suspect that BIS will probably end up being our Westminster winner too. But we shall see....

Do they use the same dogs at both? Because I would swear I saw some of the same dogs--and handlers--at the one last week.

That Newfoundland is a gorgeous dog... Had a coat like I have never seen. I picked him!

Both are invitational shows where the top dogs in the country are invited.... so yeah - will be mostly the same dogs... and same handlers.

Here is a photo of Coco winning the Eukanuba Championship in December (shown on Animal Planet in Jan. and repeated recently):

Yes, these champions are campaigned all over the country at dog shows throughout the year. Most of those attending Westminster were also participating in the Eukanuba.

For general info: The Eukanuba Championship is being changed to January. Therefore, there will NOT be a championship in this calendar year. It will be held in Jan/05 - one month before the Westminster. If I didn't know better, I'd say the AKC is trying to trump the Westminster with it's own game. Seems counterproductive, given the traditional and lore that the Westminster has given the AKC through the years.

OOOOOOkay, now I feel better. I wasn't all that impressed with the Norfolk terrier. He was nice and all, but I liked the Welsh Corgi--such a cutie!

I'll have to go keep an eye on this now!! Thanks for the explanation.

Well, I am a big sporting and working-dog fan myself.... and my favorite breeds never win, just fru-fru dogs.

My heart belongs to the Labrador.

You have to admit that the fru-fru Bishon that won a few years ago stole everyhone's heart, including yours.

It's response to winning was breathtaking!

GSD's have a spot in my heart for sure! The AKC show dogs walk on their hocks though... Love the German-born Schutzhund dogs best!

Let's hear it for the labs. These are my boys a few months back. They're 9 1/2 months old now and both over 75 lbs.

They're sitting funny because I just had them neutered a few days earlier.

I have a shelter dog, who was a show dog, and she walks that way. The other German Shepherd Dog walks 'normal'.

My male always sat on his hip unless I made him sit straight.

Cute pups! Lost my lab this year to old age at 16, and expect to get a couple new black lab pups this spring! Looking for litter mates, two males.

Here is my Logan years ago, in his prime.
