ON TO IMPORTANT STUFF - FREEPER WITH PERGO/BRUCE FLOORING QUESTIONS
Posted on 10/12/2003 7:24:14 PM PDT by Chancellor Palpatine
OK, I'm reaching a milestone in stupid thinking, and I'm toying with the idea of installing Pergo/Bruce flooring the length and breadth of about a 600 square foot room. My questions are twofold - first, for anyone who has done this themselves, am I biting off more than I can chew, and how long an I expect to be at this. Second, for those who paid for this installation, what was the rate per square foot, and how long were they at it? All observations welcome. Thanks in advance.

What is the substrate you'll be applying the flooring to?

Wood underneath, half linoleum, half carpet as of now.

If I was consulted beforehand, I would have recommended hand-scraped solid wood flooring.
But maybe Maf can help ya.
To: Toespi
That included all material?
To: Chancellor Palpatine
yep, everything.

Wow - no, I haven't bought diddly yet, so every option is open.

Well, ordinarilly I wouldn't answer a question from a Yankee fan, but what the hell - I'm feeling charitable...
I did it myself. It was an extremely straightforward, relatively easy project, and if you have even modest skills, it should not present a problem.
I'd recommend investing in a power mitre chop saw - it will make the work go much faster. Buy (or borrow - they come out when you're done) plenty of the plastic wall spacers, so you don't have to keep moving them. Buy the little repair crayon - You'll likely have a few small casualties of installation. Other than that, there's not a lot to worry about. Good luck.

Whether you do it yourself or have it done, make sure the proper
underlayment is applied.

I should add that we took our own carpeting out. We had a local company do it, but we also called Home Depot and it was pretty close in price. They were a little more expensive however.

I had Pergo installed in my Family and Dining areas about two years ago and love it. Since my rooms have alot of angles and alot of cutting was required, I had it installed. What the price was per foot right now escapes me. But if you want it done quickly and you are a novice at home projects like this, then having installed by an expert is the way to go. if you want to spend the rest of your life installing it, then do-it yourself.

How much could you knock out in a day?
To: South40
Yep, already looked at that - figured it adds about a buck a foot to do it right.

I can't help you with the cost, but both my best friend and my brother have installed Pergo in their high-traffic areas (hall, family room, etc.) and they are very pleased. My sister put it in her kitchen, and she likes it as well.
All had it installed and installation took less than a day.
I am going to do it myself as soon as money is available (paying daughter's last college bills right now).

Home Depot gives free classes on installing Pergo flooring every weekend.

LOL - yeah, I had some fear about that aspect of "rest of my life" installation.

Is it a log floor? If so, are you logged in?
