I hope the journalists are being typically anti-Christian in ascribing violent motives to an understandably upset crowd. OTOH, it mentions this being a Nestorian, Assyrian church. That would mean most of the members are probably all too familiar with murderous persecution by Muslims and have lost a lot of loved ones over the years to the “religion of peace” [sic].

Almost all the ancient sacramental churches are fanatically anti-Israel, but I'm not sure about the Assyrians. They don't have an actual presence in Israel and haven't for some time.

BTW, it's not "Assyrian Orthodox." That's the old name of the Syrian Orthodox. It's the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East. There's also an "Ancient Holy Apostolic Catholic Church of the East." They are considered "Nestorian."
