We’ve got the reflection pool (small wading pool for grandkids) set up so we can look at the eclipse through the water reflection instead of directly. That's good for partial eclipse but if you are in the path of totality it is safe to watch it with the naked eye. Just make sure to stop when when the moon moves past the edge of the sun but you'll know that right away.
