ISIS Claims Responsibility for Moscow Attack in Surprise Twist, Skepticism Follows
Red State ^ | 03/22/2024 | Bonchie

Shortly after a massive terrorist attack in Moscow, Russia, the first unverified claim of responsibility has been made.

Initial speculation centered on Chechen rebels or Ukrainians, but according to a post put out by the Amaq News Agency, which is the propaganda wing for ISIS, the terrorist group is saying it carried out the attack.

In English: ISIS claims responsibility for the terror attack in Moscow

Reports from the scene suggest the men who carried out the attack were bearded and carrying Russian AK-style weapons. That doesn't exactly narrow it down given the proliferation of both throughout the world. Still, there is reason to believe that ISIS could be responsible.

Despite it not garnering many headlines in the United States, ISIS has seen a resurgence in Syria in recent months. Kurdish forces in the country delivered a warning in February about the terrorist group's building strength. That turn of events comes after ISIS was essentially destroyed and left powerless under the Trump administration.

The question is, does this make sense? There are reasons to think it does. Despite the U.S.-centric approach to every major world event that permeates the general discourse, not everything is about America, the CIA, or whatever other bogeyman people might want to blame.

Russia has been battling ISIS for years in Syria as an ally of the Bashar al-Assad regime. It stands to reason that the terrorists in question are not big fans of the leadership in Moscow, and it is almost certainly easier for ISIS to plan and carry out an attack like this in Russia than it is in the United States. Despite that, skepticism is warranted and has not been in short supply since the declaration of responsibility was made (take a look at the replies to the above post for examples).

What are the alternatives? Some have suggested this is a false-flag operation carried out by Vladimir Putin. That doesn't add up given he just "won" (i.e. in a rigged election) re-election by a massive margin. If this attack were meant to be a manufactured rallying point, which he doesn't need, it would have made more sense to carry it out before the election.

Others have claimed Ukraine is involved. Again, that's unlikely. The Ukrainians and their supporters who aren't under their direct control wouldn't want to provoke an outsized response from Russia. Whenever something like this happens, you have to look for motivation. There's no "win" there for Ukraine. On the contrary, it would be counter-productive to their cause.

Jihadis don't work off such logic, though. Death and destruction mixed with religious zealotry is all the motivation they need to carry out an attack like this. ISIS leadership isn't rational. It doesn't operate with normal geo-political calculations. That combined with the target Russia has had on its back for years for its role in Syria makes it completely believable that ISIS carried out this massacre.

That doesn't mean they were, though. There will need to be more verification than a self-delivered claim of responsibility. ISIS absolutely could have done this, but while it does make sense, nothing is certain yet.

The AP has had a chance to get much more information.

...In a statement posted by its Aamaq news agency, the Islamic State group said it attacked a large gathering of “Christians” in Krasnogorsk on Moscow’s outskirts, killing and wounding hundreds. It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the claim.

However, U.S. intelligence officials confirmed the claim by the Islamic State group’s branch based in Afghanistan that it was responsible for the Moscow attack, a U.S. official told the AP.

The official said U.S. intelligence agencies had gathered information in recent weeks that the IS branch was planning an attack in Moscow. He said U.S. officials privately shared the intelligence earlier this month with Russian officials. The official was briefed on the matter but was not authorized to publicly discuss the intelligence information and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

The Afghanistan connection and the subsequent claims would lead one to believe, if confirmed, that this was the work of the ISIS-K or the Khorsan group. If it sounds familiar, that's because it is. It's the same bastards who killed our kids at Abbey Gate during Biden's disastrous Afghan withdrawal.

The group that claimed credit for the deadly terrorist attack in Moscow on Friday is the Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan called Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K.

ISIS-K was founded in 2015 by disaffected members of the Pakistani Taliban, who then embraced a more violent version of Islam. The group saw its ranks cut roughly in half, to about 1,500 to 2,000 fighters, by 2021 from a combination of American airstrikes and Afghan commando raids that killed many of its leaders.

The group got a dramatic second wind soon after the Taliban toppled the Afghan government that year. During the U.S. military withdrawal from the country, ISIS-K carried out a suicide bombing at the international airport in Kabul in August 2021 that killed 13 U.S. troops and as many as 170 civilians.

The attack raised ISIS-K’s international profile, positioning it as a major threat to the Taliban’s ability to govern.

Since then, the Taliban have been fighting pitched battles against ISIS-K in Afghanistan. So far, the Taliban’s security services have prevented the group from seizing territory or recruiting large numbers of former Taliban fighters bored in peacetime — among the worst-case scenarios laid out after Afghanistan’s Western-backed government collapsed.

At his sentencing in 1973, Watergate burglar James McCord whispered "CIA" to the judge.

I'm whispering "CIA" right now.

It's a great time to be part of the CIA right now, operating in this administration with little or no oversight, and free reign to start WW3.

We should tell the evil Putin that if he does not back off from his insane efforts to take over Ukraine that we will destroy every historical building/monument in Russia. Regardless of how old it is and how important it is to Russian “culture.” Then do it.

If we lived on a planet inhabited by even a small number of sane people, all of the major powers would get together and agree to kill every muslim on the planet. I’m talking about every last one of the inbred bastards. Young, old, male, female, whatever. If they are old enough to recognize and respond to the ‘call to prayer’ for their worship of satan, kill them. use their bodies to fertilize crops, if they won’t pollute it too badly.

If I had a time machine (and space ship), I’d kill mohammed’s mom while he was in the womb.

“I don’t see what is in it for ISIS.”

The motivation is clear. Russia has 14 million Muslims. They have been making attacks like this steadily for the last 20 years in an effort to destabilize the country and start a civil war they think they can win.

The obligatory "rigged election" claims every Western propagandist feels obliged to mutter about Russia don't make sense. If a candidate believes he is at 45% or 49% he may be tempted to rig an election. A leader at 60% or 80% popularity needs no such assurance to win. Putin is in the latter category, as a popular leader in a necessary and popular war (witness the similar levels Bush held after 9/11).

If you want to look at what happens when a truly unpopular government takes power without popular support, look to Myanmar. The military junta there had around 20% support when the last elections took place, and claimed the elections were rigged. The universal rise of Popular Defense Forces (PDFs) in towns and cities across the nation, and the unprecedented way the PDFs have joined hands in cooperation with the long-oppressed ethnic minorities in the hill country, reflect the fact that the junta really was as unpopular as the election results indicated. Despite the desperate attempts of Western propagandists to hype every act of subversion by western-brainwashed Russians against Putin, it's plain no such base of opposition exists in Russia.

The True Belivers&tm; always believe they will be spared because they have no knowledge of history. The primary nuclear target list would include every city that contains a Federal Reserve bank, and you'd work your way down from there.Once the evil bstards at the Fed are gone, I don't think shiny badges will be much more than a target.Certainly, for me, the only thing 'credentials' will get you from me is lead moving at 2000' pper second. Sadly, I expect to get pasted in the first wave. in the aftermath, I would consider the only good FED would be a dead one. Most folk havent thought about it as much as I have, but I suspect that opinion will become the future norm, and any of the slimy worms who used to be 'feds' will learn very quickly to hide who they used to work for.

To any current 'fed' reading this, as far as I am concerned you could all die tomorrow, and I'd raise a beer to whomever killed you. honestly. I

Coastal cities are most vulnerable. They are already in sights of the nuclear subs.

True, but if things go truly pear-shaped, being inland won't help much.

There are a lot of blustery blowhards around lately that never bother to think that the actions they throw around might have really bad consequences.

Sounds real tuff though.
