Bloomberg News reported on Monday, “Trump personally told Ramaswamy he won’t be his vice presidential pick, according to people briefed on the discussion, but is considering him for posts including Homeland Security secretary. Some Trump allies see Ramaswamy as ideal for the job because they say he excels at public speaking and, as an Indian-American son of an immigrant, could neutralize criticism of sweeping immigration restrictions.”
Ramaswamy has been a loyal supporter of Trump, even when the two were battling in the Republican primary.
After leaving the race, Ramaswamy promptly endorsed and began campaigning for Trump

Good! I’d prefer he not even be anywhere near Trump’s cabinet, but I can live with it, as long as it’s a cabinet position from which he can do little damage to Trump’s administration.
Press secretary has no executive powers to change anything. Words are just speech. Only feel good moments, then nothing. As homeland secretary Vivek could make significant difference. He is not your typical country club Republican afraid to ruffle feathers.

That’s probably true, but I doubt he would accept it. He’s looking for something bigger. He’s looking for something to bolster his national profile, that he can use as a stepping stone to bigger things, after Trump. Press Secretary, influential though it may be, is not high status enough for him. He’d essentially be a salaried employee whose sole job description would be to defend the Trump administration. Not a good look for someone whose agenda is to build his own brand. He wants a cabinet position with managerial powers, to demonstrate his prowess (if it exists).
Trump can low-key manifest a strict policy of favoring plain vanilla U.S. Americans—no foreign spice, or at least no remaining foreign spice, at birth—by respectfully taking otherwise excellent non-NBCs off of his VP short list, one by one, until only NBCs remain. Oops, sorry usurper hopefuls! Here’s a mere cabinet post or SCOTUS nomination.

Agree that politically he would not bring any states electoral votes Trump would not already get. VP also has little direct power. Chief of Staff would really be a good place as he could ensure the right people are in place and avoid the uniparty. Management and taking the bureaucracy out of the government, attacking the deep state are things he could really make an impact.
