As much as I would like to see it happen, I can’t see this thing being sufficient to have any serious impact. I would certainly love to be proven wrong on that.

“The graphic is based on all truck shipments stopping. No chance in hell of even coming close to that.”

It doesn’t have to. Panic would probably set in if 5% of shoppers could not get what they wanted. The hoardiing would then cause the shortages. It’s a finely balanced system.

I guess I am jaded, because all I can think of is Patriot Front.

Who are these guys, and who is organizing this? I don’t hear Trump calling for it.

If even 20% of truckers “get Covid” it will cause a world of hurt for some people.

Well the guy who took out our entire neighborhoods power last year, by driving down a residential street with a 90 degree bend and rather than realizing his mistake just kept going, taking out the power pole and damaging my neighbors home was none of those, he was clearly someone from south of the border who couldn’t even speak english.

ANd that was the third to do something like that in our neighborhood in less than 3 years, and every one of them was a non english speaker from south of the border.

Very small loads would make room for about 30 illegals in the truck. Leave with empty truck.

If the New Yorkers’ anticipation of being cut off simply scare the living crap out of them for several days, it could be positive. It might make them consider wiser choices in the voting booths.

There is a huge difference between losing 20% of your trucking capacity nationally and a percentage of them refusing to go into a city.

Hate to break this to you but independent truckers pick and choose all teh time where and where not to deliver. My BIL has been an OTR Trucker for decades, he long ago decided going into NYC wasn’t worth it, and hasn’t taken a load into the city in decades. Others make the same decisions for whatever reasons they have.

Trucking by its very nature is diversified, so to have an effective boycott isn’t impossible, but not easy. Independent drivers do whatever they want, pick and choose loads by whatever criteria they want. Shippers if they can’t get drivers to deliver up the price offered for shipments, and while some drivers won’t budge, others will.

I support what they are trying to do, but color me skeptical it will have any major impact. For every Trump supporter who will refuse to go into NYC for this, there are a ton of foreign born drivers who care nothing about US politics who will enjoy the higher prices they get to go there.

We shall see.

Hahah, you think a week or two of inconvenience is going to wake NYC zombies out of the liberal mindsets you are beyond optimistic.

These are people who watch cops get beaten openly in the streets by serial criminals and do nothing.

These people are arrogant and out of touch, until they are personally starving, and I do mean literally starving to death, they will not wise up.. and some of them, even then won’t wake up.

All truckers have to have a valid CDL. This license is on file with the DOT and can be revoked anytime they now please.

I had gotten a CDL with all endorsements right before getting out of the Army. Never needed to use, but was a good resume enhancer. Texas wouldn’t let me renew when came time since my job position didn’t require one. I didn’t think that was quite fair but I had no choice but to let it go. In Texas of all states too.

How can the government know when a driver refuses a load? If they knew, what are they going to do about it? Arrest him? Shoot him? Our drivers refuse loads all the time. It’s their right.

I had mine until 2016. NC DOT let me keep it if I wanted, even though I wasn’t medically qualified a medical card.

if nyers panic and start hoarding there will be shortages even if the boycott is nominal

Back in the 70's IIRC, Johnny Carson cracked a joke about a toilet paper shortage and people took it seriously and created one by stocking up and probably hoarding.

Of course, anyone not prepped these days for almost any contingency is a fool.

Look how fast we ran out of things in March 2020 when Trump did the lockdown for a couple weeks with 15 days to flatten the curve.

It took MONTHS to recover.

Aside from the fact that I prep for every winter because schlepping heavy goods in through the snow and slop is no picnic, not to mention what the chances are of being snowed in or losing power due to downed trees around here, is no fun, I don't intend to go without again.
