Groceries in Trudeau’s Canada are so expensive that they’re driving up the poverty rate

“Marginal food insecurity captures worry about running out of food or limited food selection due to a lack of money,” said the note. “Moderate insecurity captures compromises in the quality or quantity of food due to lack of money; severe food insecurity captures missed meals, reduced food intake and at the most extreme going days without food.”

In a recent report, Statistics Canada revealed that year over year Canadians were paying more for basic groceries. According to their data, prices had increased:

6 percent more for potatoes to an average $4.97 per kilogram;

7 percent more for stewing beef to $20.48 a kilogram;

9 percent more for tea to $4.39 per 20 bags;

11 percent more for canned tuna to $1.82 per 170 gram can;

12 percent more for carrots to $3.65 per 1.4 kilogram bag;

14 percent more for hamburger to $11.72 a kilogram;

15 percent more for baby food to $1.64 per 128 millilitre jar;

18 percent more for peanut butter to $6.27 per one kilogram jar;

19 percent more for orange juice to $4.70 per two litre jug;

20 percent more for baby formula to $41.16 per 900 grams;

27 percent more for white sugar to $2.92 per two kilogram bag.

However, the news should not be surprising to Canadians considering a December report which estimated that food costs for a family of four in Canada will increase by $700 in 2024 amid the ongoing carbon tax and rising inflation.

Wanna declare war on the poverty rate? Do what Jo Jo did. Import 15 million illegal alien foreigners.

Trudeau is way too busy getting free vacations from his Muslim/Communist friends to worry about food

6 percent more for potatoes to an average $4.97 per kilogram;

Yikes!

Currently $5.87 for ten pounds of potatoes in my area. One store has a BOGO as well.

Potatoes, stew meat, carrots, are "poor people" food.

When you have servants they buy and cook the food, so the cost is of no consequence. Trudeau has never bought groceries during his entire life, so understanding food cost is something he’s never been familiar with.

Thanks to Trudeau’s immigration policies and global warming taxes, the average house in Canada now cost $757,600. So while rocketing food prices are worrying... Just having a roof over your head is now a major worry for most Canadians.

For federal elections we use a paper ballot marked with a pen or pencil. That ballot is then hand counted with scrutinizers from each party present for the counting. We don’t elect prime ministers. We elect a member of parliament from a party... The party selects the leader.

Well... We don’t use machines to do the counting which is done by hand, so unless you have scrutinizers who are completely stunned the counting is generally good.

That being said, packing the polls with students who’ve been bought off with pizza and pints of vodka, has been known to occur from time to time.

The problem areas are Quebec and the greater Toronto area... Very liberal and very leftwing oriented, they tend to hold a great deal of sway in federal elections. That does change from time to time, especially in the Toronto area where the NDP and Liberals end up splitting votes... Sadly, the NDP is very weak and they aren’t garnering enough votes. Propping up the current Liberal government won’t likely help them in the next election, and that will be detrimental for the Tories.

The next federal election will hopefully result in a Conservative majority, but because of those established voting patterns in Quebec which always votes Liberal, the Liberals may still eek out another slim minority victory. Sad, but true.

True-dolt imported over 1 MILLION LEGAL aliens last year! God knows how many 'visitors' and "students' merely 'forgot' (wink, wink,) to leave when they were supposed to.

Without even counting the illegals in Canaduh, THAT is why there is a housing affordability crisis in Canaduh!

I live in 'shared accommodation', and I am paying $700/month, and I get the lower end, price-wise. Food? I stocked up on canned goods about six months ago. I have about 1.5-2 months' worth of canned goods.

We were on vacation in Canada about 15 years ago. The groceries there were on avearge about 2-3 times the prices in the US. We asked why the high prices? We were told because it was paying for their “free” healthcare.
